About this property
Spacious and cozy cabin near Lost Trail and Salmon
The Lost Trail Powder House is located off Highway 93, about a mile south of the small community of Gibbonsville and thirty miles north of Salmon, Idaho. This property provides excellent access to winter recreation opportunities: just 15 miles away, Lost Trail Ski Area and Chief Joseph Pass offer great and affordable downhill skiing, groomed nordic trails, and snowmobiling. For those interested in ski touring, there is plentiful backcountry access in the surrounding area. During the non-winter months, the nearby Salmon and North Fork Salmon River drainages are home to some of the best hunting and fishing in the northwest. Whitewater rafting and kayaking opportunities are abundant!
The house itself has a spacious and cozy main floor with open living space, radiant in-floor heat, and a wood stove. From the living room, french doors open out onto a back porch with a swinging chair overlooking a grove of Ponderosa Pines and the North Fork of the Salmon. A woodstove in the living space keeps the house warm and cozy, and we'll have kindling and wood stocked for your stay! The living room's abundant seating is great for group games, movies, and gathering around the fire in the evening. The kitchen is large - lots of counter space and an island with a second sink, making it easy to cook group meals. We love cooking and we've done our best to stock the kitchen with all the things you'll need during your trip, plus some! Two grills and a smoker are also available on the porch for cooking outside.
The master bedroom on the main floor has a comfy king-size bed and a private bathroom. A spare bedroom with a queen bed is also on the main floor, and a second full bathroom adjacent to the living space. The large mudroom with laundry facilities is perfect for stowing all your outdoor gear.
The second level of the house is a newly-finished upstairs loft apartment with a separate entrance and deck. This space has its own kitchen and full bathroom. The open floor plan includes a living space with a king-size bed and a small day bed, along with a comfortable futon that can be made up to accommodate larger groups. Baseboard heaters provide the space with plenty of heat, and the wood fire heat on the main floor also helps to keep the loft warm.
Both the upstairs and downstairs have large flatscreen TVs with Netflix, a DVD player, and high-quality Wi-fi internet (we just got fiber optic installed in Gibbonsville!). The SmartTV on the main floor offers just about every streaming service we know of. As far as other entertainment, the house is stocked with reading material, cards, and games.
There is no cell service in the area, but if your phone offers wi-fi calling and texting it's easy to stay in contact when you need to. If you need to work remotely, you'll enjoy the high-quality wi-fi we have despite our location in the remote Idaho woods!
For groups larger than ten (or those that don't include couples and/or children), cots and an air mattress are available to set up for your stay - just let us know what you need! Pets are welcome, just let us know how many are coming. We do charge a $15/pet fee per stay, $30 for two or more dogs.
