Villa Carmela is an 18th century home located in the historical centre less a min. walk from the Castle and St. Giorgio church. 300 sqm of living space. 4 main bedrooms, garden, spectacular terrace, medieval guesthouse with lemon and plum trees. Located in the heart of the historical centre, this recently renovated, 'sunny' 18th century villa with garden consists of a main building, a large terrace garden, and garden studio. The property is only a minute walk to the famous St. Giorgio church and Modica's castle. From both the main villa, garden studio and terrace there are spectacular views of the historical centre. The main building has 4 meter domed high ceilings and three very unique bedrooms (two are ensuite) with one of these bedroom having walls carved in rock. Large, fully equipped kitchen. Villa Carmella is perfect for extended family gathers. 50 inch flat screen tv complete with a digital library of over 200 films.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is located beside the castle and a minute walk from St. Giorgio. We are a five minute walk to Modica Bassa. Villa Carmella is fortunately located between Modica Bassa and Modica Alta. This is an advantageous location because our villa offers spectacular views of the area. Whereas many Modica's homes have very dark interiors, our villa is graced with beautiful morning light and subdued afternoon light.

5 days in the baroque cities of Sicily

A very charming apartment close to San Giorgio church, with beautiful views on Modica. The owner, Peter, and Lorenzo, the caretaker of the apartment did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable. A pleasure to be hosted by such nice people.

Great upgraded rustic villa experience

This was a great stay in a quiet part of town, which is itself not too heavily trafficed by tourists. Modica has some nice places to visit, and they are easy to get to from the villa. The hosts exceeded all expectations in getting us set up and making us comfortable. We arrived on Christmas Eve, so grocery shops were going to be closed. Not to worry! They took a shopping list from us by email and had the place all stocked when we arrived. Pretty impressive. A really nice feature of the house is that there are doors between all the various living and dining rooms. This makes it good for a multi-family stay--not everybody is forced to be involved in everything that is going on. Only one downside and one word of caution. There was mold growing in one of the bedrooms with a rock wall, and it was a little dank in there. I guess that's what you get along with a striking living rock wall inside the villa. Caution: Don't believe google maps instructions on how to get to the designated parking spots. The host probably told us this and we forgot, but we ended up damaging our rental van trying to get it through the narrow alley in front of the property. Instead, be sure you take the big main road to get there.
