About this property

Beautiful Farmhouse on 115 Private Acres

Located just outside the southwest metro of Minneapolis/St. Paul near the quaint town of Jordan, Stone House Farm offers an extra-ordinary setting for a close-in rural respite from the pace and populous of city and suburbs.

The farm is distinguished by its unique, nearly 100-year-old, beautifully restored, superbly clean 3-bedroom, 2-bath stone farmhouse that is surrounded by 115 acres of rolling hills, native grasses, and mature trees. The secluded "Back 40” natural area with a meandering creek and maintained trails is a special place to walk, cross-country ski, and view wildlife.

Guests come from near and far to enjoy all the farm has to offer—patio cookout in front of outdoor fireplace, stories and s'mores over the bonfire ring (wood provided), family fun like horseshoes, bean bag toss, ping pong, table games, and piano, mountain bikes (provided), or just kicking back and taking in the picturesque rural views.

Or venture off the farm to visit the many area attractions—Minnesota's Largest Candy Store, Valley Fair, many golf courses and lakes, horseback riding, zip lining, fall festivals, apple orchards, and much, much more (see below).

The Psalmist wrote, "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul.”

We hope this is what you experience at Stone House Farm and look forward to helping you have a memorable visit.

HISTORY: The stone farmhouse was built in the 1920s with our family purchasing the farm in 2019. It is available for respectful guests seeking a memorable rural getaway. You will find pictures, poems, and other items around the house that represent our family and Christian faith.

KEY POLICIES:
* Two members of your group are over 35 years old.
* No one outside your approved group is allowed on the property, except with owner permission.
* No behavior that disturbs our neighbors, such as loud voices or music, and no excessive alcohol consumption or illegal drug use.

RATE and DISCOUNTS: Rate is based on 2 guests. Each additional guest is $35/night. Max occupancy is 6 guests. 5% discount for 7+ night stays.

SETTING: You will enjoy plenty of privacy on the farm's 115 acres. The farmhouse is set back a quarter mile from quiet Sawmill Road and perched atop a hill with beautiful views in nearly every direction. The Back 40 natural acreage, much of it never tilled and reflecting the original prairie landscape of Minnesota, is a treat to explore. Each season at the farm—winter, spring, summer, and fall—offers its own unique experience!

LIVING ROOM, DINING ROOM, KITCHEN: All three rooms on the main level are open and connected and filled with natural light. The LIVING ROOM is suited for relaxing on the comfy chairs and couch. The DINING ROOM with its large table is perfect for family meals and games. The KITCHEN is fully equipped for all your culinary ideas, with stainless steel appliances—double-ovens and range, french-door refrigerator, and dishwasher—butcher block countertops, and a farm sink overlooking the Back 40. Full list of kitchen items available upon request.

BEDROOMS and BATHROOMS: There is one bedroom with queen bed on the main level and two bedrooms upstairs, one with a king bed and the other with two twins. Full bathrooms with tiled showers on main and upper levels. There is also an additional room upstairs for reading or kids play.

OUTDOOR FIREPLACE, GRILL, and PICNIC TABLE: Great for family times, meals, and taking in life at the farm.

CAMPFIRES: Fires are allowed in three designated areas: in the outdoor fireplace, in the fire ring overlooking the Back 40, or for an even more remote experience, by the oaks in the Back 40. Free split firewood available.

RECREATION: Six mountain bikes are available (nice gravel roads to ride), as well as ping pong, bean bag toss, ladder ball, horseshoe pit, and various sports equipment. Board games, puzzles, and a digital piano are also available. In winter, bring your cross country skis (groomed trails!), snowshoes, and sled.

INTERNET and TV: The farmhouse has free high-speed wifi, a 40” LED TV with a Roku set top device for streaming television (i.e. DirecTV and other apps), two adapters (Apple and Android) for streaming directly from your device, a DVD player, and a digital antenna that receives 30+ local channels.

DOGS: We allow one well-behaved 100% housebroken dog if under 60 pounds and owner is willing to keep him/her on main level only and not on beds or furniture. Request dog agreement for rest of policies.

FARM FRESH EGGS: Eggs from pasture-raised hens (highest designation) from the farm next door can be ordered and delivered to the fridge in advance of your arrival.

STONE HOUSE FARM IS: 3 miles from Jordan, 10 miles from New Prague or Belle Plain, 13 miles from Prior Lake, 22 miles from Lake Minnetonka or Eden Prairie, 37 miles from Minneapolis airport.

Immaculate home with spectacular views
The property was a beautiful and comfortable retreat. Our only regret was that we were so busy we didn’t have time to sit and enjoy the views.

Wonderful property and stay
The farmhouse is idyllic, peaceful and well appointed. Perfect location near the Cities but feels like you’re far far away nestled in beautiful farmland. David was as good a host as I’ve found with rentals, communicative and helpful and informative. He and his family care about guests and their property, and it shows. Our long weekend in Jordan worked out perfectly for 3 generations plus dog. Would definitely stay here again.

Country Respite
The property was lovely. The house is beautifully restored with exquisite attention to detail. The farm is alive with birds and wildlife with a variety of place to sit, rock and enjoy nature. It has beautiful walking paths, and was a dog's paradise. We travel with our Golden Retriever, Fletcher. He loved it as well.

About the host

Brodie and I are lifetime Minnesotans who love this state. We were raised and live just west of the Twin Cities in the Lake Minnetonka area and are blessed to have both sides of our family nearby.

In our twenties, my parents introduced us to the rugged, forested wilderness on the North Shore of Lake Superior. They had honeymooned there in the 1950s and today we relish trips Up North to our cabin, Lutsen Lakehouse on Lake Superior (also available for rent).

So perhaps it was just a matter of time before we developed a love for the rural agricultural part of Minnesota. We felt it stirring when we would find ourselves on weekends driving out to a quiet gravel road somewhere in the country to take a walk with our son and dogs.

The first day we set foot on Stone House Farm, we could tell it was a special place—the unique stone farmhouse, the awe-inspiring views, the Back 40 nature and wildlife area. The overall setting enchanted us. There is a lot to appreciate and experience at this farm and we are so grateful to be its stewards at this time in its history.

If you stay in the farmhouse, you will likely notice what is most important to us—our Christian faith, family, and friends. We find this a conducive place to cherish all three. And it makes us glad to share the farm with others who will enjoy and respect it as much as we do.

David and Brodie Wheaton

Why they chose this property

Even though the farm is close to the Twin Cities, it feels so rural—like being transported into a different world. The stunning pastoral views, the beautifully restored farmhouse, the 115 private acres to roam and explore...we invite you to come and experience it for yourself.
