About this property
Vista Village Retreat
Located in downtown Vista, this 1950's 2 bedroom 1 bath house is the perfect Home Away From Home. It has a warm cabin feel with some modern updates. There is a large outdoor area for grilling and relaxing. It is private and quiet but also close to lots of shopping, theaters, restaurants, breweries (all walking distance), and only 7 miles from the beach.
This is not a full time vacation rental and is not "IKEA" in its design and decor. This is our winter home but during the rest of the year, when we go back to New York to work, we rent this house to others. We remove our "personal" items so you won't feel like it is anything but your space. It is older and funky and has a great feel and vibe. It is 850 s.f. of cozy cottage/cabin. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, glasses, etc. There is space for 3 cars to park (carport and driveway). The patio or porch is a great place to enjoy the garden and view.

Carroll and I spend most of our year in Niagara Falls, NY where we run the guesthouse and several vacation rentals. We have been doing this for over 10 years. A couple years ago, we decided to spend our winters at our house in Vista, CA (where Carroll came from before moving to NY). We spent the last two winters renovating the property for us to live in from Jan-April and for others to enjoy from May-Dec.
Why they chose this property
President Eisenhower said Vista has the best climate in the country. Sunny without the daily coastal fog yet close enough to the beaches to enjoy the sea breezes.
The street is an old avocado trail that was along the hillside. In the mid-50's houses were built in this area. During the last 20 years, downtown Vista has undergone a major redevelopment and gone from semi-rural/agricultural to "the place to be." The house is walking distance to many shops, restaurants, breweries, a water park and cinema.
