THE SPACE
This historic, stylish property is a Smart Home and an urban retreat like no other. Our huge 1860 modern suite provides a relaxing stay for 1 to 6 people: solo travelers, business trips, families with kids, and furry friends. Over 1200 sq. ft. of updated, modern space. Reserved parking is included for two vehicles behind the home.

You’ll feel like you’re at home with a fully-stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, private patio, Netflix and Apple TV, Alexa through out (every room), drinks, coffee, snacks and more!

You can GEEK OUT in this Smart Home and control the Hue Lighting, limitless music, and house temperature with your personal assistant Alexa. And of course, there is extremely high-speed wireless internet. There are multi-port USB charging stations throughout the house. For your ENTERTAINMENT, we offer free Netflix and Apple TV on both floors. There is an antenna on the TV, second-floor living room, if you need to access local channels. Bring your passwords so you can login to your own accounts via Apple TV. There are apps for Hulu, HBO, Showtime, Sling, Disney+, and so on.

Snuggle up in either of our two BEDROOMS both with plush queen-size beds. There is a small desk in the 2nd floor brown bedroom for private workspace. The 1st floor bedroom (red hand-stenciled room) is huge and conveniently connected to the kitchen. This beautiful red bedroom also has it’s own TV. Ask Alexa to help you drift away with sleep sounds or soft music. There is a thin Japanese floor mattress (queen-size) in the wardrobe.

The LIVING ROOM (common space, purple room on 2nd floor) can be used as a 3rd bedroom if needed (includes a sofa to sleep on provided you cover it with the linens in the towel closet. Do this to avoid unnecessary damages to this expensive sofa.) or an entertainment area for TV, games and relaxing. This room also has a pub set (from an old local theater in Cincinnati) for playing cards or movies ’n snacking. We provide the popcorn! There’s a full-size air mattress if you need to spread out more! Bonus: enjoy our calf / foot massager …. a special touch that most places don’t offer! Ahhhhhh.

The BATHROOM is located on the 2nd floor. We provide all towels, linens, and toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush and paste, and bath gel so you don’t have to tote them. Enjoy the personalized tall shower with many unique settings such as waterfall and massage.

The gourmet KITCHEN is decked out with everything you’ll need for preparing meals at home. If it’s not there, we want to know so we can add it! Take a peek through our 25+ cabinets and drawers - you’ll find spices and herbs, pots ’n pans, baking dishes, cutting boards, blender, knives, toys for the kiddos, pet bowls and accessories, and many other helpful items. We offer a single serve coffee maker, designed to brew a coffee pod or beans (both provided.)

The LAUNDRY nook is located conveniently off the kitchen. We provide detergent, fabric sheets and more to help you get the job done easily.

NEED MORE SPACE? Rent “Tres House”, the front of the house, and share the entire house together. House of Liebe (6) + Tres House (6) = 12 guests. Need more space than that …. one street over we own “The Slanted House” and “Always Friday” (each sleeps up to 2 more).

If you do plan to stay with a pet, please mention it so we can discuss specifics. No cats, dogs only. Note the number of pets at the time of your inquiry or reservation (2 dog limit please.) We charge a Pet Resort Fee of $20 per stay.

PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE
Potential for city noise (next to a gas station & busy street)
Must be able to climb stairs
Side yard is shared with our other rental guests
Outdoor security cameras/recording devices on property
(viewing exterior of home)
There are only two parking spots - use spaces marked #1 only - during rental window (check-in to check-out).

If you’re considering renting our place in the heat of summer, please read the following before you book: House of Liebe (an 1860 historic home) gets a lot of sun in the city. We suggest keeping the blinds closed during the day, using the ceiling fans and standing fan, ensuring the vents are open, and take advantage of the supplemental A/C unit on the second floor. If you prefer a house that can be super cold like a hotel during the hottest days of July / August …. This house may not be for you. The formula for house “coolness” has always been to expect a 20° - 25° difference from the temperature outside. Read all of our reviews over 6 years and you will see that guests find our place extremely comfortable and we will be booked solid during the summer. However, I mentioned this in case guests are very sensitive to summer heat.

Important- No extra guests. Plans change ... so let us know if yours do. Please note our capacity of 6 and make sure your reservation matches the number of guests in our Rental. (This includes visitors even if they don’t spend the night.) If you need to add a guest at the last minute, please reach out to us right away. It is only $10 extra per guest beyond the first two registered. Failure to communicate with hosts about the correct number of guests will result in ALL guests being asked to leave.

Upon booking please tell us …. What brings you to Covington? Why do you wish to rent our place? Who will be joining you? How many guests? Do you have pets and if so, how many/what kind? How many cars do you need to park?

Quaint Covington retreat

The property was just as described and was perfect for our weekend getaway with friends to Cincinnati. It located close to the restaurant, bars and other attractions. We loved finishing our day with sitting by the fire ring and relaxing. Host was response to any questions and checked in to make sure everything was going well.

Covington

Our stay was very comfortable. First time travelling with our 15 year old small dog. She had a secure side yard for potty breaks and we loved having coffee/reading beneath a shade tree. Loved the location for walking to restaurants. Try the Bahn Mi at The Standard, a tenth of a mile away. Grabbed a slice of pizza on Mainstrasse mid day after visiting Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park. Headed the opposite way for a brunch and then Korean food. Vicky was on property within 5 when we had initial access glitch. Museums were a quick and easy drive over the bridge. Devou Park was a quick drive up the hill and a beautiful location to overlook Cincinnati with a children’s park and hikes Vicky was insight within minutes when we had an entry glitch. She was very personable and helpful. She has so many family fun activities that we’d love a return trip with grandchildren.

Good location, overbearing host

Location was great for the reason for our stay. We were in town for our wedding celebration - our place of stay should have been the last thing we would need to worry about, however, it was the most stressful part of the weekend. We received multiple, long messages reiterating the same “rules” throughout our stay. We had to get it “approved” for two individuals to come by for 2 hours to do our hair and makeup. Having a few out of town family members stop by to drop off a wedding gift was not allowed because we couldn’t have “visitors” enter the home. Felt as if every move we made had to be approved by the hosts. We were even told how to park our cars. We felt uncomfortable sitting in the courtyard because we felt we were being watched by the multiple cameras. Seems like maybe this host has been burned in the past, but that shouldn’t be held against new guests. The home itself was nice, spacious, and had a lot of character.

Dancing with the Stars

We came for one night so that my teenage girls could go see Dancing with the Stars in Cinci. We also brought our Boxer dog. The property was fun, comfortable & clean. They had everything we could have needed during our stay. So convenient to take my dog out for potty breaks. Would definitely return!

Great ambience! Charming, clean and welcoming!

Listing was accurate! We had a great night stay while in the Cincy area to take in some museums and sights. The ambience was warm and welcoming with electic and artsy touches throughout. The "house binder" was great. Meeting the friendly hostess by chance at checkout was icing on the cake!

Great place to stay in Covington

The property is very nice and comfortable. Very creative decorating and welcoming. In a good location within walking distance of many restaurants and little shops in downtown Covington. The only issue was that neither of us slept well as it sounded like someone was walking on the floor above us all night long. We were on separate floors but had the same experience. May have just been creaky floors of an old house,

Unique home situated close to sporting events

We came down for a Bengals game and were looking for somewhere close to stay, this house checked the box. It was close to the game and to our favorite breweries, one being Braxton which was within walking distance but we didn’t walk. The Circle K next door seemed a little sketch so we chose to drive to things in the area vs walk. Parking was tight but we were very thankful that the house had its own parking. Guests were staying in the attached rental but we didn’t really notice them which was impressive for such an old home. The binder with the house rules also contained lots of information about the area, restaurants, etc which was super helpful.

About the host

Hosted by Vicky or Doug

Host profile image
Family of 4 from the Greater Cincinnati Area!

Doug is an amazing film-maker, composer and sound guy; Vicky was a top podcaster on iTunes and blogger for 10 yrs focusing on "What Really Matters"; Aidan is our charming, handsome guy - a head pastry chef, supreme foodie, tech-geek, dog whisperer and all-around good human being loved by all; and Ellie is our adorable little princess - nick-named "Friday" for believing every day can be Friday when you're doing what you love. She loves music, her friends, art, pets and school. And then there is Granny (a.k.a. Linda) who is #5 to our Rental Venture. Granny is retired and loves to help at our Rentals when she can. It's her FREE Thornton gym membership. She loves meeting guests and takes as much pride in hosting our homes as the rest of us.

We all LOVE food, movies, travel, people, and the city we live in! We have been landlords for over 25 years and our first Rental (House of Liebe - love in German) was the first home we bought together in Covington. The other half of this historic two-family is our other place (The Tres House - tres for three floors and our third Rental). It has been so much fun and successful we opened up two others, just a street over (The Slanted House and Always Friday - of course named after Ellie). And yes, The Slanted House does lean a little to the west if you are looking at it from across the street. So yes - we love hosting and always beautify-ing (a.k.a. cleaning) our homes to share with others.

Why they chose this property

Mutter Gottes Kirche, or Mother of God Church, was founded by German immigrants to Covington in 1841. The surrounding neighborhoods of treelined streets and brick town homes is named for this beautiful landmark. Mutter Gottes neighborhood was one of the first residential expansions of Covington, and most structures there were built between 1860 and 1890. The area bound by Fourth Street on the north, Pike street on the south, the CSX railway to the west, and Madison Avenue to the east is listed as a National Registered Historic District. Noteworthy historic structures include the fire station on Sixth Street and the Albert B. Koett house on Russell Street. A garden at the intersection of Sixth and Craig contains the Neighborhood Mosaic sign.

What makes this property unique

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Diverse. Historic. Charming. Many of our neighbors have lived on our street for decades. View of beautiful downtown Cincinnati from the bedroom windows and courtyard. Conveniently located next to Dep Liquor Store, Covington Tobacco, Shell Gas Station, and Circle K store for those late night chocolate (or other) cravings!
