The History of the School House and The Classroom - A Captivating Journey Through Wexford Town's Rich Past
The Schoolhouse at Saint Patrick's Square, Wexford, was built in 1824 and is just a two-minute stroll from the bustling, historic main street of Wexford town.
Originally constructed as a Church of Ireland parish school for boys and girls, it served in this role for 133 years.
In 1968, it was purchased by the current owners' parents, who raised their family in the house and ran their business from there until 2020.
For the first time in its history, the old schoolhouse is opening its doors to the public, nestled in the heart of historic Wexford town.
Location
Located against the old Viking and Norman town wall—built in the 9th and 11th centuries—and beside the ruined twin-belfry-towered Church of Saint Patrick (built in the 1500s), the property also neighbours the resting place of rebels who defied Cromwell in 1649 and the slain Pikemen of the 1798 Rebellion.
The schoolhouse is a secluded haven of tranquillity and historic gravitas, only minutes from Wexford's Main Street and just 100 yards from the National Opera House at the Theatre Royal.
