About this property

Whangaimoana cottage at Palliser Bay 559 Cape Palliser Road

Originally the coach house for the historic Whangaimoana House this little cottage has been converted to very snug accommodation for two people. Tucked in behind the big house the cottage has its own little private courtyard with outdoor table, chairs, and BBQ. Using an open plan design you can relax in front of the open fire or lie in bed watching the flickering flames. When you awake in the morning to the song of the tuis and bellbirds you can cook your bacon and farm fresh eggs in the complete kitchen. The fridge is stocked with all the food you need for a large country breakfast, especially the freshly ground Supreme coffee. There is always home baking and fresh garden flowers supplied. There is a separate lavatory and the shower room has a wall heater and heated towel rail. A new feature is the installaion of FREEVIEW television.
The very rugged, but beautiful coastline has much to offer. Just 10 minutes drive takes you to the Pinnacles, an unusual land formation, where some of the Lord of the Rings was filmed. Further on you will pass through the fishing village of Ngawi and then on to the Cape Palliser lighthouse and the largest seal colony on mainland New Zealand. The coastal road is ideal biking and the Palliser Bay water is renowned for diving and fishing.
Your choices for evening dining are;
a night in, a half hour drive to Martinborough for the award winning restaurants and wines
or the Lake Ferry hotel with its fish menu just 5 minutes drive.

Hidden gem and magical place

We visited for 3 days, exploring the area (Pinnacles and Lighthouse) which was wonderful. This was matched by a beautiful cottage with plenty or room for two, a well stocked fridge and a lovely garden. The host is a kind and caring couple, making you feel welcome. Don't miss to have a walk around and don't miss the sunset. Highly recommended!

Simply amazing!

My partner and I had the most amazing, and relaxing time staying in the most beautiful, romantic and cosiest little cottage we have ever experienced. The open log fire is superb, and supplied with an abundance of perfectly seasoned firewood. The fire was even on upon arrival and the cottage was warm and cosy. The gardens are also beautiful and the location of the property is close to Martinborough and Cape Palliser. This made it a great base to explore from. Jacqueline and Alastair were perfect hosts and are incredibly lovely people. If you want a romantic weekend away with your partner this is definitely the place you want to be. We will be back and I couldn’t recommend it more. A very special place.

Lovely spot

The perfect winter weekend getaway from Wellington. Fish’n’chips Friday night at lake Ferry hotel; open fire, rain on the tin roof plus treats - home baking and fresh flowers. Well stocked pantry; breakfast provisions included farm eggs and bacon. Highly recommended for a place to get away and relax.

Cozy Getaway

This is our second visit and we love it. The fireplace is so cozy, and our lovely hosts keep the firewood stacked. The home baking and bacon and eggs in the fridge are a treat. Long walks on the Coast and great coffee at The Landgirl cafe - couldn't have been a better visit.

The hospitality shown to us was well beyond any expectation. We were provided with food to prepare any manner of breakfast, the cottage is quaint and cosy, fully equiped and the open fire is an added extra. The Cottage

Highly recommend. Excellent accommodation in peaceful, beautiful surroundings. Our hosts Alistair and Jaqui made us very welcome and provided plenty of food to make our breakfasts over two days. Only a half hour drive from Martinborough or Cape Palliser. Would definitely stay again if we do another trip down there.
