About this property

A large home that is a beautiful piece of New Zealand history

A large character house on a large section. This house was originally built in 1886 and is one of the oldest in the village. The house has been host to the local Doctor, rural postie and numerous farming families of the region. Over the past 18 years we have modernised the house while retaining the character and feel that came with the era it was built in. It is large, with big bedrooms, warm and has all the creature comforts you will need.

The house is short walk to the beach, pub or golf course. The beach is 10 kms of golden sand, with great fishing, diving and some areas of safe swimming. This location offers a great place to unwind and take in the stunning Wairarapa coast. It also has a fantastic 9nhole golf course and local pub with a great restaurant. The coast has a great reputation for longline fishing, and we speak from experience when we say that the gurnard and kahawai along this coast are some of the biggest you will catch!

Close to the area is Akitio, with the possibility of a drive over Akitio station through stunning scenery if you gain permission. You might also fancy a short drive to Porangahau or maybe the easy drive to either Dannevirke or Waipukurau to check out the local eateries!

A large and noisy seal colony hauls out at the famous Cape Turnagain during winter. From here you can see where they used to barge supplies to shore and take wool to waiting freighters. When the sea conditions are right you can also get a feed of fat paua, or if keen take your tanks and find crays only a short distance off shore.

The house is warm with a large wood burner and stacks of firewood so offers a comfortable stay regardless of the weather. There are plenty of DVD's, games and books. It is a great house to relax, unwind and enjoy the rural surroundings. All the bedrooms are large and warm. The bathroom and kitchen have recently undergone renovations and are clean and modern.

Large fenced section with a native forest at the back is great for young children.

There is plenty of off street parking for extra cars or the boat.
Special conditions:
The house has undergone extensive refurbishment but we still have work to do! The interior is largely complete but if unpainted gib or uncarpeted floors offend, then this house is not for you!
Smoking is only permitted outside and guest must clean up any butts.
Max 4 adults.
There are two fridge/freezers in the house for larger groups or extended stays.
We prefer family groups or couples where possible.

NOTE: The house is serviced by a local who will turn the water and hot water on and off and clean the house after you leave, but please ensure you do the dishes before you leave and take your rubbish/recycling with you. You will also need to bring your own linen (towels/sheets/pillow slips/tea towels).

About the host

Iain and Dawn are your hosts and we are Napier based having been in the region since 1998. We are both busy professionals and love escaping to the beach whenever work and time allows. Our best days at the beach are when we can get the kontiki out and dive for a feed of paua.

Why they chose this property

Where the hell is Herbertville? We wanted a unique property off the beaten track, but with good access to the beach life. Neverending ticks all the boxes.
We chose the name Neverending to reflect the neverending hours we have put into restoring the 136 year old house. It has been a labour of love, carefully protecting the character and uniqueness of the building. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

A big house with lots of space for family and friends. Handy to the golf course, pub and camp ground.
