About this property

Diks Cottage, St Arnaud

Set back from the road on the Lake Peninsular, this older, more basic style cottage is so private that it requires you to weave through the surrounding native bush to get to the door. This house is a classic example of 1970s NZ architecture and it is set on a number of levels, with the living and kitchen areas set around a big log burner. A proper original bach, it is a place to relax and recharge. Approx 10 minutes walk to Lake Rotoiti and approx 10 minutes drive to St. Arnaud Village Store.
Special conditions:
Not recommended for small children (steep staircase). No pets. Smoking outside only (please dispose of butts thoughtfully).
This property relies on rain water for its water supply. Please conserve water especially in dry periods. Thanks.

Extras: Cleaning (Optional, NZ$85.00 per stay); Admin Booking Fee (Required, NZ$15.00 per stay); Single night surcharge (Optional, NZ$22.00 per stay); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

Good bach
The property was good, lovely setting and had plenty of anything we needed. Screens on some windows would have been helpful at this time of the year to cope with heat and sandflies. Bombarding bees between the car and the door were off-putting.

Great summer hideaway
Excellent stay for four people. Nice to have a new oven.We liked the old stereo system and huge speakers.Our sons both thought the access to the mezzanine sleeping area at the top of ladder was a bit tight for adults, but can see the attraction for kids and teens.Great mixture of reading material incl old tramping guides, magazines. Some folding chairs which could be taken onto deck would be useful addition. Nice to read about Dik and his generous legacy.

Perfect NZ Family Bach
Dik's place was our perfect bach - rustic, surrounded by bush and unique split-level architecture. It was warm and cozy at night and perfect for our family of four. We'd be back in a flash!
