About this property
Le Procope- St Germain Odeon Historic 1750 Charm Duplex STREET OF THE OLD-COMEDY
NEW LISTING!
STREET OF THE OLD-COMEDY, 6TH DISTRICT, PARIS Rue de l'Ancienne-Comédie, Paris (VIème arr.)
Le Procope: Favorite Cafe of Artists, Writers, Philosophers, & Revolutionaries.Sit inside to enjoy the lovely 18th century decor, paintings of famous patrons, and memorabilia on display, including Napoleon Bonaparte's hat, supposedly left there by him when he didn't have enough francs to pay for drinks.
This St. Germain neighborhood is so quaint and there are a lot of places to eat. On one street over is (Rue Gregoire) is this fabulous cafe called the St. Germain Cafe ( order the French onion soup) and a few steps away is a yellow building with crepes...........amazing crepes!
Steps away from métro Odéon and the charming rue de Buci.Cheerful rue de Buci is 20 paces away, but the apartment is extremely calm and quiet.
This building was built in 1750 and has high ceilings and lots of character. Once called hôtel La Fautrière, Marat installed his revolutionary printing press in the basement of this building, and artists live here today. Practice piano here if you wish. The apartment is what Parisians call ‘atypique’, full of quirk and personality.
The kitchen has a custom built Lacanche stove/ ovens but you may not want to cook given the bakeries, bars and restaurants downstairs. Washer and dryer are Miele and the dishwasher is silent. Hidden integrated fridge and freezer. With an easy espresso machine and microwave. Fast fiber WiFi.
The apartment is a duplex, the main bedroom on the first floor and the other 2, on the second floor (assuming ground floor is zero as is traditional in France).
One king size bed, one queen and one full.
There are 2 full en-suite bathrooms (one on each floor) and an additional powder room on the entry floor. We would be happy to coordinate for assistance to carry bags upstairs if requested.
Stay in the heart of Saint Germain at Odéon, under ten minutes walking from the Louvre, the Luxembourg Garden and the best of Saint Germain bars, bakeries, cafés and restaurants, in an exceptional historic setting. High ceilings in a unique duplex with exposed beams and an authentic Parisian lifestyle, but with the creature comforts of 3 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms plus a powder room. Steps away from rue de Buci and convenient proximity to metro and bus lines.
There are three bedrooms, large by Parisian standards, two with attached full bathrooms (one has a bathtub), and a powder room that houses a stacked washer-dryer in a sliding door cabinet. There is no elevator, but the apartment has an easy staircase, and it’s only one floor up.
There is also a private interior courtyard table for breakfast outside in summertime.
This apartment is a duplex with comfortable stairs. The main floor has the kitchen/ living room and the main bedroom, and there are two bedrooms upstairs.
Even during a severe heat wave, though there is no AC, if windows are kept cold, the apartment is comfortable. Very thick ancient stone walls! It also has delicate plumbing because it is very old :)
Guest access
Please note there is no elevator. First floor entrance.
To use the street intercom to let in a guest, the guest on the street has to ring the
de Castelbajac buzzer. Open the little closet next to the front door and answer the phone. Then press the green key button and both the street door and the gate door will open.
To exit, there is a button before turning left on the stairs as you descend.
