Homestay, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 8)
We are retired from Auckland and love meeting new people who have interests in what Matakana has to offer. Our hobbies are gardening, cooking and wine buffs. We love our animals and have a strong contact to the land. I love to swim in the summer months and do Yoga to keep fit also. Have a very close family of 4 adult children and 7 grandchildren and lots of dogs in each family of which we seem to look after often! Our family are into every sport I can think of and find Matakana is very lively all year round.
RobynWy2 purchased this House in 2001
Why RobynWy2 chose Matakana
We built this property ourselves and have set out the 1 hectre piece of land all ourselves. The view from our house which is on the property is spectacular down into Sandspit and the mariner. We designed the house ourselves and love the area we chose to live for its many activities available summer and winter.
What makes this House unique
Continental breakfast and bottle wine complimentary. Just let us know if you require the breakfast though please. There is a private courtyard out the back of the barn with your own BBQ all this looks into our own garden but you are away from the main house. The beauty of The Barn is that is in the country but close to all activities.

We had a wonderful time at Robyn’s house - a beautiful place with many wonderful amenities!
Thanks for everything Robyn, it was wonderful to meet you, and stay in The Barn
Absolutely loved our stay
Our second time back to the Barn. Absolutely amazing place, a lovely relaxing sanctuary that is accessible to all that Matakana has to offer. Thank you Robyn and John for being amazing people.
We usually have great people to stay like Stephanie. Thank you for leaving barn so clean and tidy.
No Wifi at the property, No hot water and shower on second floor.
1. No wifi at the property at all, Robyn instructed me to go outside of the property and put my phone in the direction closer to her property, which still quite far away from the barn where we stayed from the wifi connection point of view. Once I got into the property, signal gone. Robyn said because there is thicker wall in her property. And I rang her again to tell her still no wifi connection. She didn't pick up the phone. Then the next day Robyn came over to talk to me ( I was in the shower) and then she told my son that I can come to her house to have wifi. I didn't go. It doesn't say there is no wifi connection on her property description.
2. No shower on second floor, also no hot water on second floor. I only been told when I got in her property by her husband. It doesn't mention on her property description.
3. Stairs quite narrow and steep, not suitable for children, old people and over weight people. No photos showing the stairs on her property description.
4. The second floor can be very hot during summer nights as it doesn't have a proper ceiling. It is a barn. But I was ok with it. Some people might complain a bit hot.
Beautiful house - great set up and lovely host!
Could not recommend highly enough
'The Barn' is much more than that; a comfortable, warm and stylish space that I would definitely return to. Robyn is a friendly and accommodating host who was very understanding with my booking requirements. I would highly recommend a stay at her barn.
We have two sculpture parks which are a must to see. Wine tours and great restaurants all close by. The village is quaint and has a wonderful farmers market each Saturday and a clothing market on Sundays. Lots of cycling tracks and beaches all round us. Horse trekking with great fishing and swimming.
