Nestled amongst native beech forest, under the Southern Alps, beside the mighty Ahaura River sits the Safety Camp Creek bach; A unique bush hut with adequate conveniences for a relaxed New Zealand native bush experience. Situated 30Km from the Ahaura township with a stunning bush road drive. With abundant bird life and flora, bush road walks abound this little piece of paradise.
There is no electricity, fridge or cell phone reception at the bach, though reception can be obtained up the road. A cord is supplied for lights inside the bach to connect to a car battery Due to bad experiences, only well behaved dogs allowed. This is an area where we encourage native wildlife.
NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

Absolutely loved our stay here! So much beautiful scenery and a wonderful off grid location, our dog loved it too! Host was very friendly, we will definitely be back!
This was the cutest little property in such an amazing spot we LOVED it! Couldn't recommend this place enough and even better with having no power or cell service for a break from today's world. We didn't want to leave.
Lovely stay! Truly enjoy the simplicities of life.
Brent was a super host. Just be sure to get instructions prior to arrival if you are arriving in the dark. We will be back
It was a great weekend away with family getting back to the pleasures of no tv and cell phones. Fun times playing board games and just relaxing. We all loved it A+
We really enjoyed our stay at the hut which is surrounded by native bush and next to a good sized stream. There was plenty of bird life, incuding regular visits by a couple of South Island robins and a big wood pigeon. Bell birds and Tuis often rang out nearby. Brent was a great host, friendly and accommodating. We were sad to leave, would absolutely stay again.
basic needs met in this hut, flushing toilet and hot shower, great for after a day "armed hiking" as I like to call it. grea fishing close by. Cranky stove smoked me out a couple of times, great owner who popped by to say hi. cheers for the stay brent! Grant
A well aged puzzle piece bach, in NZ forest, tucked down a dead end road. Surprising amount of traffic on the road during our stay. Neighbours were quite noisy also but the bach had everything we needed. Hot water for a shower was a bonus. The old Shacklock range is prone to smoking out the bach but I think we figured it out after a few days. Reliable cell service is back at the Orwell Creek Road turnoff, for those wondering. For a last minute booking, it worked out well and appreciate the good communication from Brent. Review by ‘All Others’.

We were arriving late and Brent had the fire going and was toasty warm, the surrounding bush and creek, magnificent scenery, a really relaxing spot and very comfortable hut to stay in
We had an amazing time in this little hut in the woods. The surrounding area is so beautiful, with the path down to the creek, tons of mossy forest and the Ahaura river. Having no power and reception makes it super unique. Brent was an awesome, friendly, helpful host too!
A little bach tucked away in the forest. We had a delightful few days cooking on the woodfire stove and listening to the rushing stream near by. Would highly recommend bringing a mosquito net because sleeping was tough. Even though there are screens on the windows, mosquitos found their way in during the night.
Loved my time here in this place - super quiet and secluded, beautiful creek behind the hut, cozy and clean place to stay, surrounded by bush! Will definitely come again
This place is a real rough diamond in the bush, with basically everything you need and nothing you don't. The hot shower is luxury in the depths of winter, the shacklock is the perfect mix of practicality and novelty for young folk and the setting in true native bush with a creek out back is pure Kiwi magic.
Really glad I got to experience this isolated bach for a full week. Brent was a great host. Place is full of character - vintage Shamlock stove, with plenty of firewood and butane burner for the mornings. Creek right behind can sit on the rocks and enjoy a hot drink as the day comes alive then walk through the bush and up or down the Ahaura River, or there's also a longer bush walk up the hill behind the bach. Creek noise provides a constant ambience, which I found super nice to sleep, and usually heard and/or saw a few birds in the mornings too. Probably only counted 5 or 6 cars going past in my whole 8 days there. Discovered by accident you can get 1 bar on Spark down the road near the top of the airstrip, in case you really need it. Would be defeating the point though! Super peaceful place.
