It was great to be able to host a guest who needed a next day booking for a big event. Sometimes the best of plans just don't come together! Lovely to be able to offer you a quiet respite at the end of long working days Abby. Thanks for being such a considerate guest (and for loving our dog!) Kind regards Paula

Shirley and her party are excellent guests who communicated clearly about their plans and needs. They were quiet and left our apartment very very tidy and clean - thank you Shirley. We recommend them to other hosts.
The isolation provided by the farm atmosphere is very relaxing .
The space is very well equiped and extremely clean and tidy .
The hosts remained in the background , but were attentive to any further needs .
We booked this property for a four week stay whilst visiting our children and grandchildren locally.
Within 24 hours of arriving we went down with Covid. Paula and Mark couldn't have been more sympathetic and helpful, providing test kits, face masks and disinfectant wipes.
Once we'd recovered we were able to engage more fully with P&M who were most welcoming and provided all the comforts we could possibly need.
The property was spotlessly clean, amply equipped and truly comfortable and peaceful. In fact the most telling comment we can make is that it is a real home from home. We would highly recommend this property and, who knows, we may be back again.
Beware of Archie, the dog...if you open your car door he'll be in!! He's harmless and very cute.

Chris and Alice - We very much enjoyed offering you some respite at a challenging time. Its our privilege to share the NZ country side with city folk. So appreciated the way you cared for our apartment - and would welcome you back any time. It's such a long haul from a Southern hemisphere winter to a NZ summer. So pleased you felt able to relax!
Right now cider apples are ripening; we are making sauce, jam and chutneys and there are buckets of roses after summer pruning. It's hot and there are beans and tomatoes to pick from the vegetable garden everyday. The joys of self sufficiency are very tangible in autumn!! Take care of yourselves - best wishes from us - Paula and Mark
The host(s) were welcoming and very helpful. The accommodation was tidy and clean and well kitted out with everything I needed. The breakfast was great.
Lovely property, quiet location that is still near centres of various sizes, friendly and welcoming host. The array of food provided was really good, breakfast was covered as was morning and afternoon snacks and drinks. We were so well served by breakfast that lunch wasn't really required during our stay. Paula recommended a dinner option that was excellent and a local cafe that was also very good (when Diana approves of the Ginger Slice it must be good). We wanted a quiet couple of days to do things at our own pace and just to take it easy, making a few trips over relatively short distances.
We got all that and more at Kiwitea Cottage Apartment, thank you very much.

I liked the extra little touches in all areas ie Chocolate beside the bed, Preserves in the fridge, Fresh fruit available, Personal Hygiene things available if required. Great Breakfast options. Loads of information on things to do in the area.
We spent two nights here on our recent trip to NZ.
Paula and Mark were fantastic hosts and we very much enjoyed talking to them about their vegetable gardens, organic certification process and the chickens and ducks as well as Mark's incredible art. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable and we will definitely return in the future. The apartment was brilliant, incredibly comfortable and stocked with the essentials and so much more. Thank you for your hospitality!

Spent an additional night (four nights) In February 2019 at this amazing property. We arrived early as arranged prior and were welcomed by extremely friendly accommodating hosts. The accommodation was immaculate, fully equipped and stocked with all the basic pantry requirements you could wish for and more. We were treated as part of the family and very much enjoyed the gardens and ducks! We have rebooked for next year and recommend this property for those looking for a relaxing stay and great company. Thanks to Mark and Paula for your hospitality and invaluable local knowledge.

It's a question we get - is it the same as the pictures? The answer is yes and no. The apartment interior is exactly as the pictures show. The garden is often more overgrown - a summer flush of sweet peas and poppies, towering winter broad beans, an autumn tumble of triffid-like cherry tomatoes, a spring battle between early greens and weeds.
About the host
Hosted by PaulaAl2
Hi - I'm Paula and with my husband Mark I've have been hosting guests since 2016. Our work (and that of both of our parents) propelled us to live in quite a few places. So we know what special looks like - Kiwitea is off the beaten track but just a 20 minute drive to everything we need. We like to have travelers coming and going and are happy to let you decide how much interaction you want. Share a coffee or a glass of wine with us or just come and go. We are organic food growers. Mark is a working artist. I write web content and am involved in creative projects. We're social, enjoy cooking and are part of a warm inclusive local community.
Why they chose this property
We bought this renovated historic cottage with its acre of class one soil and guaranteed community water supply so we could develop a certified organic garden. It's a conversion from pasture to garden beds and four years on the shelter is growing fast! We feel blessed to be part of a warm creative productive community and neighbourhood.
What makes this property unique
It's quiet. You can see the stars at night. The bed and the sofa are so comfortable.
