Barrier Headquarters main house. Unobstructed 270 degree views white sandy beach
Has amazing, unobstructed North-facing 270 degree views over Medlands beach, bay and mountains beyond. Just a few minutes walk to spectacular Medlands beach via road or a bush track. The entire house is eco friendly with drinkable rain catchment water, solar panels providing all electrical power and solar water collector for hot water.
The kitchen has a large fridge freezer with gas stove and hobs, and a massive concert island bar.
SpaceX Star link satellite dish for ultra fast internet onsite.
Pedestrian access via foot bridge (from camp ground) across stream and then an eight minute walk to the house. Vehicle access to house requires crossing of the Oruawharo tidal stream at low tide!!! in your 4WD vehicle. My onsite manager will arrange a meet and greet at the foot bridge to exchange house keys, show you correct operation of the home and use their car to transport your luggage to the house on arrival and departure.
All meals are self-catered therefore if you want specialty items it is suggested you bring these with you to the island although there are shops and cafes located at Claris, Tryphena and Port Fitzroy if you have your own transport.
Barrier is an amazing destination with world-class surfing, fishing and diving on your doorstep. The southern end of Medlands beach is suitable for boat launching.
Laundry facilities are located at Claris adjacent to the general store. Mount Hobson summit, Kaitoke natural hot springs and historic kauri dams are worth the walk.
Please note: For groups of 5 or less, the main house is available on its own which you can view through the listing #45210 Special conditions: No pets allowed at all. Smoking only outside. Not to be used as mass gathering for big groups and parties.
Extras: Cleaning (Required, NZ$75.00 per stay); Linen (Required, NZ$75.00 per stay); Meet and greet including Transport from Creek to house (NZ$60.00 per stay);

This property is incredible - I would highly recommend staying here. The view from the house is stunning. The photos do not do it justice. Communication was great and checking in was super easy. Cannot wait to go back!

Dear Helaina,
Thank you very much for your kind words, very flattering.
It is a special place I enjoy sharing with good people.
Best wishes,
Anthony
We enjoyed a relaxing 3 nights in this beautiful property. It was exactly as described, the unit was very well stocked and the view was amazing. A perfect getaway and a base to explore the island. Thank you!
My only recommendation would be that having a high chair available would be helpful for families.

Thank you Alison, I really appreciate your fantastic review. Well noted with the high chair, you are welcome back anytime. Enjoy your week, Anthony
This lodge is a gem - superbly located close to the aerodrome and the shops at Claris, with amazing sea views and walking distance to Medlands beach. There is a superb kitchen, with an excellent gas cooker and huge benchtop. All crockery, cutlery, pots and pans are provided. As the house relies on solar and gas for power and water heating, there is no microwave or electric heaters - for warmth, you'll have to get the wood fire in the living room going. When you check-in, make sure with Chris that the water heating and the room heating is going (it's quite a complex system). The courtesy car from the footbridge up the hill is a real blessing - although avoid if you have dust allergies. Chris and Anthony are a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend this place!

Thank you Santhosh for this review, much appreciated. You have been one of my most honored guests, next time you return I owe you a free nights accommodation. Best wishes Anthony.
My partner and I stayed at this lovely holiday home for 3 nights after Christmas 2021. For us the location was perfect- a 5 min stroll to long sandy beaches (a car is provided for running down the hill to beach/ estuary, but we didn’t need it) and safe swimming spots, returning to 180 degree views from lounge/ kitchen, balconies and master bedroom. The home has everything you need for a relaxed and comfortable stay. We tiki toured around the island during our stay and both agreed we had found the best spot to stay. We’ll be back and would bring family with us as home could easily accommodate more guests without being on top of each other

Absolutely gorgeous, would love to stay again sometime soon.
The house was lovely, everything we needed. The view is superb, pictures just don’t do it justice. The perfect getaway to relax and completely get off the grid.

Thank you Ana, pleased you had a relaxing time and enjoyed your evenings in front of the open fire 🔥🔥🔥
We absolutely loved our stay at this house. Four adults and plenty of space - we didn’t turn on the TV once as we just enjoyed the indoor/outdoor flow from the lounge to the deck. The kitchen was very well supplied for all the cooking we did, the view from the deck was just gorgeous and the car for that side of the river to run us up and down to the footbridge was much appreciated. We are already talking about when we might be able to return! Our favourite house we have ever stayed at in Great Barrier. Thanks again to Anthony and Chris for the great communication along the way and a perfect stay!

Fantastic guests, they treated the house with upmost respect and looked after it as if it was their own, would love to have Sharon to stay again.

The house is incredible, the location is calm and remote. I couldn’t have loved my time here more! The only thing I would say to anyone reading is to hire a car so you can explore the island a little/get to the local shops for food- I didn’t and wish I had!

Thank you Linsey, you were a delightful guest and welcome to stay again anytime, I will give you a personal tour of the Island x
Fabulous property for 4 adult family members. Superb fittings & views. Only discovered the property manual (loose papers mixed in with other maps etc) the day we left. Perhaps a folder would work better. A great experience overall.

Wow.
Wow.... Awesome designer home, amazing location and view over the most incredible ocean beach and coastline.
The beds were super comfortable, we had everything we needed and more. Perfect place for a break.
The appointed Manager, Chris, was extremely friendly, helpful and extremely accommodating.
We would love to be back at some stage in the future and can thoroughly recommend the property to anyone wanting some downtime from the hustle and bustle of Mainland NZ! - You will love it!

I would categorize this special place as a rare gem.
I would categorize this special place as a rare gem. There are a lot of accommodations which are very basic which you expect on an island. However, this luxurious villa will make you feel like the king of the hill with a view to die for! Very well maintained and you can feel the love the owner has put into his house. We stayed here with our parents and we had an unforgettable holiday. The walk from the camping up to the apartment takes 10 min but the view is very nice.
