A PLACE IN PROGRESS 🌿

Wild Wood Park is something we are actively building and shaping over time. It’s still in its early stages, but that doesn’t take away from how special this place already feels.

We’re a mother–daughter team who share a love of history, nature, and bringing old places back to life.

A lot of our time is spent restoring historical buildings and working with materials that might otherwise be thrown away. We enjoy salvaging what we can and turning it into something meaningful again—whether that’s through restoration, design, or more creative projects along the way.

We’re drawn to spaces with a story, and we try to honour that in the way we approach everything we do. Much of what you’ll see at Wild Wood Park is shaped by that—simple, nature-inspired, and built up gradually over time.

Hosting is something we genuinely enjoy. It gives us the chance to share what we’re creating with others, and to offer a place where people can slow down and experience it for themselves.

Why they chose this property

We first came across Tambo on a road trip out west, and it’s the kind of place that stays with you.

It’s a small town, but its impact is surprisingly big. There’s a strong sense of history here, and being the oldest town in Central West Queensland made it even more special to us as history lovers.

One of the things we’ve always noticed here is the birdlife—it’s incredible. There’s always something moving or calling in the trees, and the red-tailed black cockatoos visit regularly, which never gets old. It adds to the feeling of the place, which is quiet, open, and genuinely beautiful.

The community is also something special. It’s close-knit, welcoming, and has that rare small-town feel where people look out for each other.

When we saw Oakwood House come up for sale back in 2013, it was quite run down and in need of care—but that’s exactly what drew us to it. We love a challenge, and we could see the opportunity to bring a beautiful old home back to life again.

Over time, we’ve had the chance to speak with people who lived in the house years ago, and every one of them spoke about it with so much fondness. It’s clearly been a place that’s been deeply cared for and enjoyed over the years.

That’s something we’ve tried to carry forward—and something we hope guests feel when they stay.

What makes this property unique

What makes Oakwood House feel a bit different is the mix of space, history, and where it’s set.

It’s not just a house on its own—it sits within Wild Wood Park, so there’s a real sense of openness and quiet around you. It feels a little removed, in a good way, like you can properly switch off.
The history is a big part of it too.

Oakwood House was originally the residence for the first superintendent of the old Tambo Powerhouse, which sits just behind the home. That connection is still very much part of the place, and it gives it a character you don’t often come across.

Over time, it’s been lived in and cared for by different families, and we’ve tried to continue that by restoring it in a way that feels simple and in keeping with its surroundings. A lot of what we’ve done leans on natural materials and repurposed pieces, so it feels grounded rather than overdone.

Then there’s everything around it—the birdlife, the open skies, the quiet. It’s not something you can really manufacture, it’s just what the place is.

Its a place with a lot of heart—and that’s usually what people connect with most.
