About this property
Lakefront Living in a Sunset Cove with kayaks
Sunset Cove is a bright, open-concept space that marries modern amenities with a vintage vibe. On a sandy cove on Lake Deception the view is “Group of Seven” picture perfect: slate blue waters, dotted with small granite islands, capped with windswept pines. Ideally situated for exploring the area. Just 15 minutes to Shelburne for restaurants, craft brewery, live entertainment. Spend the day exploring our beaches then head home for a twilight swim/paddle and a beach bonfire under the stars.
Come and be captivated by our little slice of retro heaven. From the moment you reach the top of the driveway, you will be enchanted by the view. Step inside and you are greeted by a bright and airy interior, where every detail has been carefully considered for comfort and vintage style.
The open concept space seamlessly blends the living room, dining room and kitchen, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere perfect for both relaxing and entertaining. The furnishings are a mix of Mid-Century Modern with a dash of 1960's and 70's housewares and a touch of understated Canadiana. Brimming with personality, retro pieces, original artwork and unique auction treasures give the space a sense of nostalgia.
The living room features authentic 1950's Atomic sofas and armchairs; a cozy wood stove and three large sliding patio doors that lead outside onto an expansive deck where fresh pine breezes and lake views await. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for preparing simple snacks to gourmet meals and desserts. There is no dishwasher, but the fantastic lake view compensates for the chore. In the dining area, a 1950’s teak sideboard features vintage barware, cocktail shakers and a cool ice bucket.
Running the length of the cottage and overlooking the garden are the bedrooms and the bathroom. There are three bedrooms, two of which have queen size beds. The other has a double bed. All the bedrooms are comfortably furnished with vintage dressers and new beds made up with fresh cotton sheets and duvets. The bathroom is a 3-piece with a shower. Towels, including beach towels, are provided.
Location:
Sunset Cove Cottage is nestled in a quiet cove overlooking Lake Deception. At the end of a winding road and surrounded by spruce and white pines it is a private retreat.
The lake is peaceful and quiet. Shallow in some parts and deeper in others, Lake Deception is suitable for kayaks, paddle boards and canoes. So, if you are looking for a peaceful escape away from the sounds of motorboats and jet skies, this is the place for you. Mornings on the lake are typically calm and still. It’s the perfect time to take the SUPs out for a tranquil paddle or savour your morning coffee and watch the island emerge from the morning mist.
A large two-sided deck runs the length and width of the cottage. Partially covered and furnished with wicker chairs and a sun lounger, it's perfect for lazing in the sunshine on one side and then retiring for some cool shade on the other.
The garden slopes gently down to a small sandy beach with a dock. There are hours of family entertainment to be had at the cottage. Take the paddle boards or kayaks and explore the lake. Tie up to the floating deck that doubles as a swim platform and relax! Bask in the sunshine, swim and float around in the inner tubes. Go on a woodland walk, check out the aerial acrobatics of our resident ruby throated hummingbird, Bertram as he defends his feeder. Watch a spectacular sunset and spend the evening playing board games, or star gazing around a beach bonfire.
If you tire of the cottage and want to explore, it's just 15 minutes to Shelburne where you can find museums and shopping as well as a selection of dining options. Catch a show at one of the local bars/restaurants or the Osprey Arts Center. A little further afield are provincial parks, fishing villages, beaches, museums, galleries and hiking trails.
Guest Access:
Everything at the cottage is there for you to use and enjoy. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for cooking/baking at home. Along with the fridge, stove and microwave, there is a toaster, kettle and blender. For baking, there is a mixer, measuring cups and spoons, as well as baking trays, muffin tins and bread pans. Please help yourself to the items in the pantry. There is usually tea, coffee, flour, sugar, olive oil and a selection of spices.
* For the coffee connoisseur there is a stove-top Espresso maker, a French press and a drip coffee maker along with a coffee grinder and a milk frother.
* There are books, jigsaws, board games and cards for family games night.
* The deck is set up with some wicker patio furniture, a sun lounger and a propane BBQ.
* On the sandy beach there is a firepit* (wood provided) and some beach chairs.
* For the lake there is a dock, swim platform, floaties, two kayaks and two stand-up paddleboards along with a selection of life jackets and paddles.
* Please be sure to check the burn safe website to see if there are any burn restrictions before lighting a bonfire.
Other Details
* Reliable high-speed Bell Fibre internet is available at the cottage. Connection details will be provided in your welcome package.
* All the beds are new and have a full set of bed linens, pillows and comforters. One of the queen size beds is a coil spring mattress with memory foam, while the other 2 mattresses are Endy/Casper beds.
* There is a set of towels (Beach, Bath, Hand & two face cloths) supplied for each guest. There is a laundromat in Shelburne if you need to refresh the linens.
* All the couches and chairs in the living room are from the 1950s/1960s. They are low to the ground and some of our friends with mobility challenges find it difficult to get up from them.
* Sunset Cove Cottage has a maximum occupancy limit of 6 guests. If you wish to have guests join you for the day, please let me know.
* The cottage is not pet friendly. While the cottage is thoroughly cleaned after each set of guests, there have been cats in the cottage in the past.
