Unwind in the comfortable living room with a large-screen TV, or step outside and explore the vibrant neighborhood of Gulfport!
**THE STORY** This historic building has a rich and colorful past that reflects the early development of Gulfport. Originally swampland owned by the state of Florida, the land was purchased in 1912 and soon became home to one of Gulfport’s first commercial buildings—a grocery store with the shop on the lower level and the owners living upstairs. In the 1920s, it transformed into Florida Playthings, Inc., a small factory producing wooden toys and lawn ornaments. By 1938, the building was converted into apartments, marking yet another chapter in its evolution. Behind the main structure sits a small cottage with its own unique story—it once served as Gulfport’s first library, a private effort launched by a wealthy local resident. Originally a streetcar line storage shed, the building was relocated and repurposed as a clubhouse and library, staffed by local girls in the late 1910s and early 1920s.
