About this property

Nomads Hideaway Near Matara Railway Station

Nomads Hideaway – A Tiny Garden Villa Homestay in Matara
Your cozy home in the heart of Matara town, just a short stroll from the railway station

Welcome to Nomads Hideaway, a charming one-bedroom garden villa that blends the comfort of a private stay with the warmth of a family-run homestay. Nestled in the lively heart of Matara town — yet tucked away in a serene garden — our villa offers travelers the perfect mix of convenience, privacy, and cultural connection. Whether you’re here for a quick stopover between train journeys, a few days to explore the southern coast, or a long-term stay to work remotely and immerse yourself in Sri Lankan life, Nomads Hideaway is designed to feel like your home away from home.

The Space
Our villa is thoughtfully designed for comfort and ease. It’s a fully private unit connected to our family home but with its own entrance and gate, so you can enjoy both independence and easy access to our friendly hospitality. Inside, you’ll find:

Spacious bedroom with a comfortable queen-size bed, fresh linens, and soft lighting — perfect for a restful sleep after a day of exploring.

Beautifully designed bathroom — often praised by our guests as one of the most stylish and comfortable they’ve seen in Sri Lanka.

Fully equipped kitchenette with a microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee machine, and all the essentials for preparing your own meals.

Work-friendly table space for remote workers or digital nomads.

Private outdoor nook in our garden where you can sip your morning tea or enjoy the tropical breeze.

Special Touches
Every guest receives:

A complimentary fresh fruit basket — often featuring papaya and king coconut from our own garden, plus seasonal delights from the local market.

Daily complimentary tea — homemade and served with care (just let us know in advance when you’d like it).

A warm welcome from our family — my parents, Lionel and Priyanka, love to meet guests, share local tips, and help with anything you need.

Location & Accessibility
One of our biggest advantages is our central location.

5 minutes’ walk to Matara Railway Station 🚉 — perfect for catching trains to Colombo, Ella, or the scenic southern coast.

Close to Matara Bus Stand — ideal for local day trips or longer journeys.

Nearby beaches — Matara Beach, Polhena Beach, and the famous Mirissa Beach are just a short tuk-tuk ride away.

Shops, supermarkets, and restaurants are all within walking distance.

Despite being in town, our villa is set in a private gated space with a peaceful garden, so you get both the convenience of the city and the calm of nature.

Services & Extras
We offer a range of optional services to make your stay smoother:

In-house taxi service — operated by my father, Lionel, at special guest rates. Perfect for airport pickups, day tours, or short trips around town.

Scooter and bicycle rentals — explore at your own pace.

Self-service laundry — use our washing machine for a small fee per load.

Long-term stay discounts — ideal for remote workers or travelers who want to settle in and experience local life.

The Nomads Hideaway Experience
Staying here is not just about a bed for the night — it’s about connecting with local life. You might start your morning with fresh tropical fruit and tea, spend the day exploring nearby temples or beaches, return to rest in your private villa, and chat with my parents about Sri Lankan traditions and daily life.

We love hosting curious travelers, cultural explorers, and digital nomads who appreciate an authentic experience over a cookie-cutter hotel.

Sustainability
We care deeply about our environment and community:

Most of our food and room supplies come from local markets and shops.

Many items in the villa are upcycled or locally made — yes, we have a few pieces from IKEA for a modern touch, but most things are proudly Sri Lankan.

We encourage energy-conscious habits, such as keeping doors closed after 4–5 PM to prevent mosquitoes instead of using excessive insect sprays.

House Rules (Important for Your Comfort)
Keep doors closed after late afternoon to avoid mosquitoes — this applies to both front and back doors leading to the bedroom.

Please treat the villa as your home and keep it clean.

No parties or loud gatherings — our home is part of a residential neighborhood.

Respect our shared spaces — the front yard is used by us and other guests.
