Remote off grid island with log cabin and great fishing, water access only.
*The exact location for this property is 35 km north of River Valley up the highway 805 on its own island on Silver Lake, thank you for your patience while we correct the pin with VRBO support!*
Are you ready to shift from our modern busy world to a quiet off grid paradise? Look no further. Silver lake is an extremely private getaway deep in Northern Ontario forest with great fishing, abundant wildlife, and bathtub-warm water in June through August. The cabin is located on an acre sized island in the middle of the lake with newly updated amenities to keep your mind at ease when you unplug from the world including solar power and starlink. Starlink is only activated when you choose to do so, and can remain unactivated for your entire stay. An activation fee of $35 will apply if you choose to use the high speed internet.
The kitchen appliances are run on a combination of propane and solar, and the interior of the cottage is open concept with a double bed attached to the dining area, a spacious loft with 3 twin cots, and 2 extra wide couches in the living room. The toilet is still a rustic outhouse, and it should be noted that there is no running water at this location at this time, we typically bathe off the side of the dock where there is an easy gradual slant into the water.
On the island you will find the main cottage, an outhouse, a fishing shack, a sea-can where the solar is tied back to, a spacious dock, and a secondary cottage and sauna house that are both still undergoing renovation in the off season (they’ll be available next year!). The lake is known for its abundant fish and species include Smallmouth Bass, Pickerel, Pike, and the occasional catfish. Loons favourite the lake and provide a haunting wake-up call on time every morning and throughout the day. At night the stars are fully on display with zero light pollution and an easy view of the little and big dipper, and during select months the northern lights can be seen.
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT THE LISTING:
1. The address provided is the address for a small convenience store in River Valley, it is the last stop before losing signal and a great place to stock up on essentials. Coordinates are provided for the island itself and google maps functions perfectly with the logging roads you'll be travelling on for access.
2. This is water access only once you've reached the shore. You will need to bring your own boat.
3. Linens are not provided, it is recommended to bring sleeping bags and sleeping pads for the cots upstairs, and your preferred linens for the double bed on the main floor.
4. The cabin is expected to be left in the same condition it was found in, an additional cleaning fee will be charged if the property is not left in proper condition. A cleaner does come after every booking.

Had a great long weekend with the family and dog. Was a very smooth check in and accurate to the description. Cabin was completely isolated with only 1 other property on the lake. Fishing was fantastic for bass. Caught 17 over 3 days mostly in the weedy bay across from the island at north end of lake. Would recommend and will definitely be looking to make a second trip

Thank you so much for staying with us and thank you for your review! We’d love to host you again and really appreciated the fish pics! So happy the bite was on :)
Absolute amazing 10 days at this cottage! Off grid - but with solar power; was so easy! The fireplace kept us warm all night. The bed was so comfy! I had the best night sleep. We brought a battery operated shower and heated lake water up with a propane heater down by the dock. Worked great! Full size fridge and propane stove was an added bonus! If you’re looking for off grid… this is the place. Had a lovely time!
We had such a wonderful stay at this off-grid cottage! Our family of five, including our dog, absolutely loved the peaceful setting and the chance to unplug and spend quality time together. The cottage was cozy, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. We especially enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, quiet atmosphere, and slower pace of off-grid living. It was the perfect opportunity to disconnect from the usual hustle and bustle and reconnect as a family. Our daughters had a great time exploring and enjoying the outdoors, and we made some wonderful family memories during our stay. The hosts were also fantastic—friendly, helpful, and very responsive whenever we had a question or needed anything. We would happily come back and highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful, unique, and memorable family escape!

About the host

My name is Maggie Grant and this is my family cabin! I’ve enjoyed it my entire life but it has recently required some pricey renovations, so I’ve decided to open it up to renters to help cover the cost and breathe some new life into it!
Why they chose this property
This island was chosen by my father and uncle as a getaway during their mid 20’s to completely unplug from the world and they couldn’t have chosen a better place. The scenic views, haunting loon and coyote calls, big bass, and nightly frog serenades are the best reset you could ever ask for.
What makes this property unique
Having an island completely to yourself is quite an interesting feeling, and feeling like you’re taking a step back in time is unbelievable.
