About this property

Remote Base Camp: Disc Golf, Hike, ATV & Views

There’s nothing like Base Camp; the night sky, incredible views, wildlife — all here! The river, and usually a beach, are a short walk from your door. Take one of the watercraft, or rent a side-by-side to visit Wind Caves and Chicken Corner — at less than half the cost of in-town rentals! There are unlimited hikes from the property, and many more nearby. But if you want to get away to a quiet, off-the-grid spot, that’s here too. Some folks just read, enjoy the wildlife, and stargaze.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- There are other vacation rentals on-site, with some shared amenities; other people may be present during your stay
- This unit has access to a shared bathroom, with an enclosed outdoor shower and a lockable indoor toilet/sink area
- This property is about 1 hour outside of Moab and is best suited for a true remote stay rather than a home base for day trips
- There are no stores out here; bring your food and whatever you'd like to drink aside from water
- You can kayak by the beach, upriver, and back down, or around the island. During snow runoff, the river may be too swift to use. It doesn't happen every year, but sometimes in May to late June
- This single-story hogan features step-free entry

ACCESS AND VEHICLE RECOMMENDATIONS
- The access road is primarily unpaved. Four-wheel drive is typically not required, but vehicles should have at least 6 inches of ground clearance. Most SUVs, Jeeps, and trucks meet this requirement, while many sedans and vans do not. If your vehicle has limited clearance, you may encounter difficulties along Hurrah Pass, which is part of the route to the property. The home is located approximately 17 miles from Moab, and the drive generally takes about an hour
- As an alternative, call Twisted Jeep in town and tell them you're coming here. They'd rather have their vehicles on this road versus some of the difficult trails in Moab, so if they can give you a good deal, they will

SIDE-BY-SIDE INFORMATION
- If you plan to use one of the side-by-sides while you’re here, there’s no reserving them in advance. The property owner has 2 six-seat side-by-sides and 8 potential rentals. They aren't available for full-day rental; a 4-hour rental costs $250. Payment is by check or cash only
- You can use the side-by-sides to go to Wind Caves and Chicken Corner, where you'll have plenty of time to explore
- The side-by-sides are not for taking to town or the other side of Hurrah Pass. They are strictly for sightseeing in the area

The details of the drive in were minimized. once at the property we didn't feel we could leave AND THEN come back due to the disasterous road we had to drive.

This is an incredible property and a truly special experience. Our kids are 5 (nearly 6) and 15 and they will both never forget it. The land is wild and remote, likely more “off grid” than many people experience these days, so it’s an adventure, but everything you need is there and so much more than you will expect. Tom co were all excellent hosts, the tortoise and Jax the dog included. We kayaked the Colorado River, not another soul in sight. Saw all the stars. Hiked into canyons and rock caves that rival the National Parks. We crossed our fingers driving Hurrah Pass and made it just fine. We hope to come back, it was amazing.

Peaceful quiet-remote is understatement

Really enjoyed our stay- didn’t expect the totally remote locale and loved it! Enjoyed our own canyon for three days! Kayaking on river was fun and waking up to sunshine over the ridge was amazing!

In our world, a quiet place is hard to find.

Tom made us feel welcome, the space was comfortable, and we were left to ourselves to explore the desert south of Moab.

Highly Recommended

We enjoyed every minute of our stay here. It was quiet, clean, well-stocked, peaceful, and very unique. We stayed in the female hogan for two comfortable and restful nights and loved the nice warm outdoor shower under the stars. Thank you, Tom!

Wonderful stay for grandparents and grandkids alike

We (grandparents and two grandchildren) had a wonderful stay at the hogan. The views were wonderful. The ability to camp in rustic comfort was so fun. The rental of a side by side added so much to the breadth of what we saw. The kids loved exploring the wind caves and interpreting the rock formations at chicken corners. And the tortoise was an added attraction that the kids loved.

Positively, completely, unequivocally AMAZING

If you truly want to unplug and just walk off into the Utah canyons, book this place. Tom and his staff took care of everything. We didnt have a need/want for anything. The Colorado River is right there. The female hogan was comfy and well stocked. The second we drove off, i wanted to go back.

Wonderful getaway

Tom does an amazing job of managing all the facilities at Last Hurrah. Everything was clean, Tom was super helpful and gave us great advise on hiking and kayaking. There were four of us, and we slept very comfortably. I highly recommend this very unique experience. You'll have great stories to share!!

Perfect!

We really loved our stay in this little hut. There were 4 of us, 2 were children. The only thing we would do different is park the truck and trailer down into town and drive the RZR up to the hut. I hope we get to return because the location was wonderful and the view was beautiful!

Off the grid

Truly an incredible place if you are looking to get off the grid and decompress. Derive in 4x4 was awesome, kids loved it! So much hiking and exploring to do in the area it would take a lifetime to see it all. Pack in all your supplies driving out takes time, best to come complete and turns off electronics!!

Unique and relaxing

Had a great time staying in the hogan. Despite the heat of mid-summer, it was cool enough at night to sleep peacefully, after taking in the unbelievable stars. Yes, it is a bit hard to get to, but once you’re there, there’s no need to return to the crowds at Moab— everything you need is there. We borrowed one of Tom’s UTVs to go to wind caves, kayaked and swam in the river, hiked around the beautiful property, and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Remote desert oasis

Amazing property. Remote, rustic, beautiful architecture. Emphasis on remote, which is hard to find these days in the Moab area. I loved it. Fantastic hosts who went the extra mile to make my stay amazing and assist in guiding my vehicle up and over Hurrah pass. Thank you. Can’t wait to go back.
