About Strömstad and the surrounding area

In Strömstad, the oldest seaside town on the Swedish west coast, there are dozens of restaurants, street cafes and cozy shops to discover. The city often tops the list of the highest number of hours of sunshine in Northern Europe. Surrounded by the sea is Strömstad, Sweden's westernmost outpost. There is a ferry that takes you to Norway in 20 minutes, and there are several excursion boats that go to nearby islands with popular bathing beaches. Svinesund, in the border area between Norway and Sweden, with a great view of Svinesund bridges. A boat trip out to the beautiful archipelago takes you to the Koster Islands and Kosterhavet National Park, Sweden's first marine national park. Koster consists of two islands, North and South Koster, where the latter is the larger of them. Rent a bike around Sydkoster on your own or Nordkoster in the great outdoors. The more adventurous can rent kayak or diving equipment. Why not spend some time around the archipelago on an organized fishing trip. If you don't fish, you can still enjoy the delicacies of the ocean in one of the many restaurants. Many cafes invite you to the sun on the terrace and visit many exhibitions. Retail is located in the center and also in Nordby and Svinesund towards the Norwegian border. It offers everything for the buyer. The old part of town, "Bukte" ("The Bay"), with cobbled streets and fine wooden houses opposite the train station and nearby is the old club house "Skagerack". There is more history in the open air museum, where an old village "Fornby" with some old buildings. In summer you can visit concerts or festivals, the "Räkfestivalen" (in July) and jazz festival. Alaska, not far from Båtviken, is a popular attraction. This creation "Alaska" lies on the "Nord-Långö", where you can row with the houseboat in 15 minutes. From the stones alone, Hilma Swedahl has built terraces, towers and sofas that we are currently enjoying. Here are also the "Winde Temple" of "The Golden Gate" by Stein in the middle of the island.

The islands of Rosso, Tjärnö and Öddö are popular destinations for a day trip. Here you will find beautiful landscapes and many beautiful beaches. If you want to hike, you have the opportunity for long walks on the soft pine needles on the forest paths "Rossö" and at the western end of Kockolmen nature reserves, which give you a unique experience with its combination of salty archipelago and coniferous forest.

Saltpannans Badplats offers both flat sand and smooth rocks. More popular beaches at Hålkedalen, Capri and Seläter, just 20 minutes away from your home in Båtviken.
