Escape to Dale Cottage – Pool, Firepit & Peaceful Country Retreat

Leave the rush behind and discover Dale Cottage – a peaceful country escape set on 2.5 fully fenced acres, just 45 minutes from Perth. Whether you're planning a romantic getaway, a family holiday, attending a local wedding, travelling for work or simply craving a few days to switch off, Dale Cottage offers the perfect balance of modern comfort and relaxed country living.

Our hope is that this isn't simply somewhere you stay, but somewhere you return to.

From the moment you arrive, you'll feel the pace slow. Spend your days by the private swimming pool, explore the peaceful surroundings or simply curl up with a book. As evening arrives, gather around the firepit beneath the stars, share a glass of wine or toast marshmallows.

The spacious open-plan living area has soaring ceilings with exposed timber beams, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere while still feeling light and airy. Comfortable lounges, a large Smart TV, reverse-cycle air conditioning and heating in every room ensure a relaxing stay in every season.

The fully equipped country kitchen has everything you need whether you're preparing a family meal or enjoying a quiet breakfast before exploring the area. Guests can enjoy a Nespresso coffee machine, fresh ground coffee, a selection of teas, quality appliances and all the cookware, crockery and utensils needed for a comfortable stay. If cooking isn't on the agenda, you're well catered for with excellent local takeaway options delivering to the property, including Chinese, Indian, fish and chips, pizza, burgers and more.

The master bedroom has high ceilings, warm timber furniture, King bed and sliding glass doors opening directly outside. Wake to birdsong and step straight into the fresh country air with your morning coffee.

Bedroom two can easily change from a relaxing adult retreat into a welcoming children's room. It features a comfortable queen bed, reverse-cycle air conditioning and heating, and discreetly stores a toy box and colouring books which can be brought out whenever younger guests are staying.

The spacious bathroom features a large double walk-in shower, modern vanity and quality towels, while the separate laundry includes a washing machine and everything needed for longer stays.

Outdoor Living
The private swimming pool has been designed for both relaxation and fun. Measuring 8.5 x 3.8 metres, it features a generous 1.5-metre beach shelf, perfect for lounging in the water with a book, supervising young children or simply cooling off with your feet in the pool.
Beyond the beach shelf is a 6.5metre swimming area, giving plenty of space for a proper swim or family games in the water.

The outdoor area also includes a one-hole putting green, with putters and golf balls provided, along with Finska and boules for relaxed afternoons outdoors. Whether you're feeling competitive or simply enjoying time together, there's something for every age.

As the sun goes down, gather around the firepit beneath the stars with a drink in hand and enjoy the peaceful country atmosphere that makes Dale Cottage so special.

Entertainment
Rainy day? Relaxing evening? There's no shortage of entertainment without ever leaving the property.

Inside you'll find a large Smart TV with voice command, making it easy to access your favourite streaming services and entertainment.

For those who enjoy traditional family fun, we've also provided an extensive collection of board games and activities, including Poker, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Dominoes, playing cards and many more. Whether it's a family tournament around the dining table or a quiet evening with friends, you'll have plenty of ways to unwind together.

At Dale Cottage, you don't need to head out to have a wonderful holiday. Many guests spend entire weekends enjoying the pool, firepit, outdoor games, board games and peaceful surrounding.

The fully enclosed garden allows children and dogs to play safely, while most of the surrounding 2.5 acres are also securely fenced. At the rear of the property, a gate provides direct access to peaceful Carup Brook, perfect for a gentle stroll with your dog or simply enjoying nature.

Despite its peaceful setting, Dale Cottage is conveniently located close to everything you may need. Byford is only minutes away, offering supermarkets, cafés, restaurants and essential shopping. Kwinana Train Station provides an easy option for travelling into Perth, while local favourites including Millbrook Winery, King's Road Brewing Company, Serpentine National Park, Serpentine Falls and many other attractions are all within easy driving distance.

We also welcome well-behaved dogs by prior arrangement, because we know they're part of the family too.

Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, reconnecting with loved ones, exploring Perth's southern suburbs or simply escaping the city for a while, Dale Cottage offers the space to slow down, breathe deeply and enjoy life's simple pleasures.

Come for the pool. Stay for the firepit. Return for the peace.

About the host

Hosted by julie Dale

Host profile image
Hi, we're Julie and Ian Dale.

Originally from Yorkshire, England, I moved to Perth with Ian in 2008 to begin a new chapter in Western Australia. I have a background in hospitality, while Ian has spent many years in landscaping and creating beautiful outdoor spaces.

Together we run our family business, Dale Stone Paving, based on our family farm near Narrogin. We also operate Garden Steel & Stone, our online garden edging business. More recently we've expanded into accommodation, offering Dale Cottage in Cardup and, soon, Dale Farm Campground for self-contained campers.

Outside of work, we love spending time with our dogs, caravanning around Australia, reading, cooking, taking long walks and, every now and then, enjoying a trip to the theatre. Most of all, we're happiest curled up on the sofa with our dogs after a day spent outdoors.

A little Yorkshire fun fact... my maiden name was Mear, and after marrying Ian I became Julie Dale—rather fitting for someone born and raised between the Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales!

One of the things I enjoy most about hosting is meeting people from all walks of life and hearing the stories that bring them here. Whether you're visiting family, attending a wedding, travelling for work, competing at a horse event or simply taking a well-earned break, every guest has their own reason for visiting, and I genuinely enjoy being a small part of that journey.

Dale Cottage was our home for many years, and it gave us countless happy memories. We created this space because we wanted others to experience the same feeling of slowing down, reconnecting and enjoying the simple pleasures of country living. We continue to add little touches and improvements whenever we can, always with the aim of making each guest's stay even more enjoyable than the last.

Our hope is that Dale Cottage isn't simply somewhere you stay, but somewhere you return to.

Why they chose this property

Why did you choose this area?

We fell in love with this area because it offers the perfect balance of country living and convenience. Wake to the sound of birds singing, watch the ponies in the neighbouring paddock and enjoy the relaxed pace of country life, all while being within easy reach of Perth via the Kwinana Freeway.

Whether you want to switch off or explore, there's plenty to enjoy nearby. Wander local walking trails, visit wineries, breweries and cafés, or enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants in Byford and the surrounding area. For everyday essentials, there's a friendly local IGA with a wonderful deli and excellent coffee, while Byford offers a choice of supermarkets, cafés, takeaway options and local favourites, Rump Shakers butchers and Honeys Bakehouse.

After a day exploring, you can simply return to Dale Cottage, relax by the pool, light the firepit or even order Uber Eats if you'd rather enjoy a quiet evening at home.

For us, it's the best of both worlds—country charm with everything you need just a short drive away.

What makes this property unique

From the outside, Dale Cottage is a modest shed home, but step inside and you'll discover something quite different. Having grown up in Yorkshire, I wanted to recreate the warmth and charm of an English country cottage, with butler's sinks, exposed timber beams, barn doors, natural timber furniture and cosy country touches throughout. At the same time, the soaring vaulted ceilings create a wonderful sense of light and space.

We also believe that some of the best holiday memories are made outdoors. Set on 2.5 acres, there's plenty of room to kick a football, relax by the pool, gather around the firepit under the stars, enjoy a game of boules or Finska, or have a friendly putting competition. If you'd like to stretch your legs, there's also a gate at the rear of the property providing access to a pleasant local walk.

If the weather keeps you indoors, we've made sure there's still plenty to enjoy, with board games, colouring books for both children and adults, books, puzzles and all the little comforts you need for a relaxing stay.

Whether you spend your days exploring the beautiful local area or simply slowing down and enjoying quality time together, our hope is that Dale Cottage gives you the opportunity to reconnect with family, friends or yourself.

After all, you deserve it.
