About this property

Your Private Oasis on the Rogue River

A "breathtaking private oasis" was the full term used by one of our guests in 2024. Set on 5.5 acres of forest adjacent to the Rogue River within the "Wild and Scenic" protected corridor, the house can be either an excellent romantic getaway or a fun-filled, whole-family retreat.

Take a float on the stretch of exciting rapids that run past the house; enjoy a day hike along the river to see salmon jumping the dramatic Rainie Falls; pack a picnic and cool off in nearby creeks; toss a line in the water for world-class fishing; or explore the amenities of the property, which include ping pong, volleyball, archery range (bring your own bow and arrows), or a quiet retreat sitting beside the river. The family can watch movies together in the living room, or the kids can play downstairs in the "game room," where there's board games and a separate TV for hooking up the DVD player or your own gaming devices.

This cedar shingle, 3-level house comfortably sleeps 6-8 people in 1 king, 2 queen, 2 twin-sized beds, and queen Murphy bed. It's perfect for two couples or a family with children. It is stocked, for your convenience, with a fully-equipped kitchen and laundry, as well as bedding, towels, and paper products. Satellite internet and WiFi are also provided (extra charge for data over 50 gb, only). Cellular calling is out of range, but iMessaging is good, as is WiFi calling.

So bring the whole family and take in as much quiet and seclusion or wild and thrilling activity as your heart desires. There's something here for everyone.

Great house on the Rogue River!

I stayed here with my wife and two kids. We loved the property. The big windows looking out into the trees and Rogue River were my favorite. The house itself has limited river access, but there is a park next door with boat ramp and additional access. There are also a few spots nearby along the river great for hanging out or fishing.

This place is absolutely gorgeous! More than enough space for 8 people and dogs (4 adults and 4 kids).Pristine home with everything that you will possibly need during your stay. Gorgeous outdoor space with peaceful river views. You can relax on the patio when kids playing volleyball. Next door campground (2 min walk) makes perfect spot for swimming and playing in the water or rafting. 10 min drive to the local resort with life music and food carts (seasonal).We had amazing stay and highly recommend to everyone who is looking for quiet place to spend time with family or friends!

We enjoyed our stay here so much. Being able to be right on the river was such a joy. The kids loved the ping pong table. If we come back we'll plan on doing some rafting - we saw several groups rafting or kayaking and it looked like a lot of fun. We also enjoyed the garden and the various birds in the area.

This house was great for our whole family! Beautiful views of the river from the master, living room and porch. Great outdoor activities on the property like ping pong, volleyball, ninja line and lots of seating to entertain and enjoy your time outside. We had a few things come up during our stay but the owner was very responsive and helpful. We will be coming back.

The house was beautiful and we loved all the amenities! The property is breathtaking and the pictures just don't do it justice. Pam is so kind and a great host. I left my smartwatch and my daughter left her stuffy and she was so kind enough to mail it back to me. Definitely will be coming back.

Lovely respite on the river

Lodging could not have been more accommodating. Caretakers most appreciated addressing any questions, needs, or ideas for activities (even in the rain). Beautiful grounds for strolling or comfy living area for reading, board games, or just grooving watching the river flow. Definite plans to do this again!

A gem in the Rogue Valley

This house is a real gem in the rogue valley area. The place was equipped with all the necessities to make our stay comfortable. The living room was expansive and the dining area was perfect for 5 of us to sit down and have a good dinner. Just wish we could have had a better weather to spend more time in the patio and backyard. Pamela was a very accommodating and responsive host. Definitely worth coming back in the future!!

This is such a great getaway

The property is spacious, well designed and well equipped. The scenery around it is amazing, especially the Rogue river that's literally in the backyard... Our host was extremely helpful and kind. We had a fantastic time and would love to come back again. The only thing to notice is that the place is quite remote, and uses satellite Internet. As a result, working or doing remote meetings can be tricky.

Rogue River getaway

We had a wonderful time on the Rogue River. The yard was wonderful, and the house had great views and sleeping options. We did a float down the river one day and we're able to exit right at the house. We saw deer, osprey, bald eagles, blue herons, and much more. The property is pretty close to Merlin, where we were able to book a guided rafting trip. If you want to enjoy the river, this is the perfect spot. Very tranquil and magical. Pamela was very responsive to all questions.

Beautiful house and grounds, a lovely stay

We loved our stay. The house was well-kept and clean, and the kitchen was well-appointed. There was plenty of room for our group of six. We spent lots of time outdoors, playing ping pong, volleyball, and badminton and chatting and reading on the lawn or the deck, or just watching the Rogue and the birds flying over the hills. In the area, we hiked part of the Rogue River Trail and swam at Indian Mary's park (with a long side trip to the Oregon Caves Monument). Very dark and quiet at night, with incredible views of the stars. The grounds were lovely, with several acres of lawn, flowers, and landscaping. We highly recommend this rental for families or larger groups.

Private park like ambiance on the river

I really enjoyed all the walkable land around this home; it felt like a private riverfront park. A few things to note, there is a boat launch right next to the property, but we didn't hear anything and the thick vegetation kept us from seeing anything. Also, there is another inhabited home within a few feet of this one. Although close, it didn't detract from a quiet peaceful stay. The home was clean, its refreshing to stay in a cabin with clean windows to enjoy the views and not seeing webs everywhere! Nice relaxing stay, soaking up all the surrounding nature.

Beautiful River Oasis!

We loved our stay in this home! It was clean and well equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed bbq’ing on the deck, lounging in recliners by the river, playing volleyball and hanging on the property! The WiFi worked well our entire stay (no cell service in Galice which we knew booking the home). The house is also only 5 minutes to Galice Resort which had live music and food trucks all weekend! To get to the main bedroom with king bed upstairs, you do walk through another room with the twin beds and full size bed, but there are accordion room dividers to offer some privacy. The main bedroom upstairs and the bedroom on the lower level do not currently have drapes or blinds so bring your sleep masks! This property is truly incredibly and right on the river! The pictures barely do the outdoor space justice because it is massive and really well maintained! Highly recommend this home. Thank you for hosting us!

I am a retired sociologist and single adoptive mother of a teenage boy. I first started coming to Galice in the late 1970s, when I fell in love with river kayaking and the Rogue River. I taught kayaking for many years here and in California, where I live year around, and explored exciting rivers throughout the USA (and even Russia). But I must say that the Rogue is hard to beat for its beauty and wild life.

Why they chose this property

To keep a long story short, in the 1970s my father purchased the property two doors down, which housed Sundance River Expeditions, and in the early 2000s, I acquired it from him. I loved that property, but it was set up for commercial use, and I really wanted a place I could call my own. I had always admired this property for its amazing gardens and lovely perch in the forest above the river. So, in 2019, when I learned that the property was going up for sell, I jumped on the opportunity to buy it.

Besides being the most spectacularly beautiful property on the Rogue (I know, I'm partial), it comes with a fascinating history. It was previously owned by Jim Wickham, whose father, John Wickham, owned the land that now includes the mine across the river, the other properties downstream of this one, the Almeda campground next door, and acres upon acres of land up the hill behind us. In the 1970s he sold most of that to the state, but kept his rights to the spring from where the house water comes from, and a few other plots of land where family members still have homes. Jim and his wife had a trailer they stayed in, but then had this house built around 1973. It's a "Linden House" -- which at the time was a highly -regarded, high-quality, pre-fabricated home.

Five acres on the river that are all yours, beautiful gardens, family fun outdoors, convenient access to the river. Plus, the house is among a small cluster of 4 properties, 3 miles out of Galice, and the last private properties on the Rogue. It's all wilderness from there.
