Perfect house and host
My husband and I stayed for two weeks and enjoyed every moment of our trip. The mid-century modern home, designed by the father of our host, was beautiful, well-furnished and clearly sighted to take advantage of the mountain views from both in and outside of the house. We watched the mountains and sky change colors every night. Dino was an extraordinary host. Prior to arriving we had several text and telephone exchanges that were very helpful. On arrival we met Dino for only a few minutes as he had just received news of a family emergency. He left shortly after we met him and was gone during our entire stay. Despite travel, time differences and the grave nature of his family emergency, he communicated with me regularly to make sure we had everything we needed and that we were enjoying our trip. I felt I came to know him personally throughout this period and was very impressed by his thoughtfulness and attention. I highly recommend this place. In fact, I have already recommended it to two different friends who often spend time in Tucson! I

One of the best….
Yes,we must say…it was one of the best stays we have ever had and it’s the 4th time that we have come to Tucson. The house is designed as an architecture magazine. Dino was a perfect host, always available if needed. If we come back next winter, this house will be our 1st choice. Martine & Claude

Fantastic Home
This home is in just a wonderful location in Tucson. The house has unique furnishings, a very well stocked kitchen, and a wonderful patio with a fantastic view. Dino was a lovely host-kept us informed, answered any questions we had and let us have our fun. We intend to return soon!

Ultimate location for Tucson, shopping, restaurants, trail access.
Perfect location for many activities. Some quirks in the house but beautiful mountain vistas and well appointed inside and out. Host Dino was available if needed and a pleasure to meet. Easy laidback atmosphere with great location and views and space.

birding bonus
Scenery is so lovely even with the snow we experienced. You do have to see it all for yourself. I went for a short walk often and saw and heard some different birds that don't live in Minnesota. Horseback riding is just across the road and that looked like a good introduction to desert life. There are great grocery stores and a Beyond Bread restaurant within a couple "blocks". We aren't familiar with Mexican food but the Seis Kitchen was great. The bike loop is accessible about 5 miles away. All in all it is a wonderful place to spend time especially for us "super seniors" Natalie, Anoka, Minnesota.

About the host

Hosted by Dino Sakellar

Host profile image
I am a Tucson native and second generation architect. My father designed and built the house in 1961 and this is were my siblings and I grew up. Now that my children are grown and moved out I live and have an architectural studio in the west half of the house with a separate entrance.

Why they chose this property

The home has historic significance to Tucson as a classic example of mid-century modern architecture and the family of architects that has designed many distinguished buildings in the Southwest. The neighborhood has changed little over the last 55 years maintaining its natural Sonoran Desert vegetation and beautiful Westward Look Resort grounds.

What makes this property unique

The home was orientated to take full advantage of the view up Pima Canyon in the Catalina Mountains. The open floor plan and abundant sliding glass doors give the home a light and relaxing atmosphere. The screened porch and covered patios extend living spaces out doors.
