About this property

Moose Caboose Station

The "Moose Caboose" is a fully renovated 54’ Pullman Rail Car complete with a full kitchen, full bath, and private bedroom with a large picture window, as well as a separate lower-level unit that can be rented together or separately.

The lower level of the Moose Caboose boasts additional living space with a bedroom, a queen sleeper, full kitchen, dinette, full bath with washer/dryer, living room, satellite TV, and deck with furniture and BBQ grill. Perfect for couples desiring their own privacy and enjoying the panorama views.

Each level of the Moose Caboose has one bathroom, a queen bed, and a queen sleeper sofa. The interiors feature cozy Alaska décor and limited edition Alaska Railroad prints. The cabinets are well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, and cooking utensils. In other words, all the comforts and home!

The "Moose Caboose" was built by the Pullman Company in Chicago in 1944 as a rail car in which to house and move troops during WW II. Alaska Adventure Cabins began the conversion to a luxury cabin in the summer of 2002. The conversion was completed in the winter of 2002.

The conversion included the complete sandblasting and repainting of the exterior which was painted to match the Alaskan Railroad colors of blue and yellow. Large picture windows and a large deck were installed on the ocean view side. From the private deck, you can see glaciers, volcanoes, Kachemak Bay and the Homer Spit. A large greenhouse is located outside where flowers and plants are grown in the spring and summer to beautify the Alaska Adventure Cabins.

Rates are based on four guests. The maximum number of guests is six. Additional adults are $35 per person / per night and children under 12 are $20 per child / per night.

Amazing View!

This is a tiny space, but the view is what you want! It's just awesome to sit on the little front porch and look out over Kachemak Bay. We had a very nice time hanging out in this unique little "cabin." Check-in was easy, though it was a little confusing to find the driveway. The main bed is comfortable, but the sofa pull out bed has a dip in it that made for a restless night; definitely time for an upgrade. The distance from downtown Homer was just a short drive. We all agreed we would visit this cute little spot again!

Overpriced and needs remodeling

It was way overpriced for what was supplied. Lack of soap and shampoo.

Great view.

This is a cute efficiency apartment that is below the Moose Caboose. The view over Kachemak Bay is wonderful, and the location is convenient. (I misread the listing and thought that we had rented the Moose Caboose itself. If we are in Homer again, we'll try for the Caboose itself.)

I will definitely save you the Moose Caboose next time. Welcome back anytime.

Host profile image

Evelyn purchased Alaska Adventure Cabins, LLC in June of 2020. Although it was coming home since she was born here into a homesteading family years ago--but it is so much more. This is the beginning of a dream. The reviews and comments of the guests are very important as we continue to increase the opportunities for the guests' enjoyment. Our goal is to provide beautiful, comfortable accommodations the enhance your vacation.

Why they chose this property

This beautiful property is located in Homer, very close to amenities and tourist activities, but very private on the side of the hill, overlooking the Kachemak Bay and surrounding mountains. Guests frequently report whale and bird watching from the deck, as well as frequent wildlife sightings.

What makes this property unique

Along with a 280-degree view of the bay with the plush green landscape with groomed trails and photo opportunities, you enjoy a large deck equipped with furniture and a BBQ, where you socialize while watching a sunset, watching eagles play on the wind and moose will mosey past. (You are safe.) Great photo ops as you walk our summer trails and enjoy the plush green nature.
