The Space:
This newly-remodeled 7 bedroom, 5 bath home has an unequaled dune front location, with direct private beach access (shared with one other house). Indulge in breathtaking ocean views from any of 3 Sunrise Decks, and gaze over the wetlands to Pamlico Sound beyond from any of 3 private Sunset Balconies or the top level Breakfast Deck. Prepare a surf-and-turf feast on the Panorama Deck's outdoor kitchen/grill/bar, refresh in the 2nd deck hot tub, relax on the 1st deck hammock, picnic in the enclosed yard, and play on the outdoor volleyball court.
Enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the sunrise over the ocean or observe the eclectic mix of shore birds dip for their own breakfast and take flight . Finish the day with a romantic glass of wine, watching the sunset over the Pamlico Sound as the deer and otters make their evening appearance in the wetlands, and colors change in the Atlantic Ocean.
The hours between coffee and moon rise beckon umbrellas and sand castles. Be sure to have a camera handy to capture the memories of your close family and friends, found beach treasures and wildlife including the Cape's famous ghost crabs. Get your dose of Vitamin Sea as you spend an idyllic day on the national seashore collecting shells, taking an invigorating dip in the ocean, enjoy the surfing, or fishing from Rodanthe pier--just a 5 minute walk down the beach.
Solitude’s guests appreciate bottom-to-top amenities: from a panorama decktop outdoor kitchen/grill/wet bar with refrigerator and dining on the top level; always-ready chilled and hot water dispensers with tea stations on every level; kitchenette/wetbar on the 1st level; game room with pool table and classic '80s video games on the ground level; enclosed yard; oversized laundry, flat screen TVs in every bedroom, 400GB internet, comfortable lounge and bistro seating on every deck/balcony, outdoor shower, hammock, two carports, dry entry, to ceiling fans in every room (except the kids’ bunk room).
The top level living room with cathedral ceilings boasts stunning ocean, sound, and estuary views. The living area has a large sectional, entertainment center with over-sized flat screen TV and stereo, puppy-palace #1 (dog beds and food/water dishes), and opens directly to the panorama deck. The oceanside king master also has its own direct panorama deck access, as well as a full bath. The well-appointed kitchen has granite counters, tile floors, plenty of space and tools for every aspiring chef, is conveniently just steps to the outdoor kitchen, and opens directly to the breakfast deck. An over-sized dining table, the adjacent breakfast nook, bistro seating on the breakfast deck, and bistro, bar, and dining seating on the panorama deck offer dining locations to match the view-of-the-moment.
The second floor holds the conveniently-located laundry nook with oversize washer and dryer, plus three bedrooms. An oceanfront queen master bedroom with full en-suite bath has direct hot tub deck access and it's own private estuary-view balcony. A second queen bedroom has hot tub deck access while the 3rd queen bedroom has its own estuary-view balcony, with a full bath located between.
The first floor living area has three bedrooms: two queens with en-suite baths, and one kids' room with "triangle" (twin-over-full) bunk, deck and beach-stair access directly from both queen bedrooms.
The ground floor has dry-entry stairs from the carport, an oversized entertainment room with full pool table, video arcade, and wet-bar / mini-kitchen, with direct access to the enclosed yard and ground level covered patio. An outdoor area adjacent to the wetlands hosts a volleyball court for all sorts of play or wetland photography.
Savvy vacationers would do well to take the road less traveled and experience for themselves why this delightful nature lover’s home is named “Solitude.”
Guest fees include full cleaning, sanitizing, heating, and routine maintenance/chemical check of the hot tub. Non-routine cleaning or maintenance needed due to guest misuse (e.g. alcohol spills or "accidents") will be charged against the security deposit. If you let us know about a spill, accident, etc. so that our staff can be ready to take care of it, we will deduct 10% from the security deposit charge as a thank you for your honesty.
The Neighborhood:
“Solitude” is situated halfway between Kitty Hawk and Cape Hatteras - in the midst of ten national wildlife refuges, two national seashore parks, and a quarter million acres of protected habitat.
Venture out to The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station. It was a former station of the United States Life-Saving Service on Hatteras Island and today is a museum. Chicamacomico was a US Coast Guard facility from year 1915 till 1954. After being decommissioned, it was transformed into a museum and it has been a popular attraction for tourists for decades.
Over the years, it has been battered by hurricanes, the ocean, flooding, and ferocious winds but is still standing, and it reminds us of Hatteras Island and Outer Banks’ life saving history.
Take the kids to North Carolina Aquarium. It’s located on Roanoke Island and has become a great attraction for Outer Banks vacationers and seasoned visitors. This 68,000 square foot complex covers all aspects of Outer Banks’ aquatic life, from endangered sea turtles and common horseshoe crabs to stingrays.
The aquarium is a must-see, and is one of the best attractions near Rodanthe for vacationers wanting to learn about what is lying under the surface of the sea near the Outer Banks. It is an educational tour and kids should come along to learn more about aquatic life.
Up for some excitement? Then go experience Outer Banks Adventures and their airboat rides, eco & SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) guided tours. You can create your own adventure package with the tour packages available. Tours are by appointment only and run from the Washington Baum Boat landing on the Nags Head/Manteo causeway, the Manteo waterfront and other places in the Outer Banks.
Their Air Boat Tour covers over 27 miles (43.5 km) and explores the hard to reach and unique areas and offers nice photography opportunities. The one hour tour is 60 USD per person, the one and a half hour tour is 85 USD per person and the most popular tour, the two-hour tour, is 100 USD per person. There are also half and full day charters available, upon request.
All Airboat tours are for four people minimum and there are shopping and restaurants close by. You can also take a guided SUP tour while here. The one hour guided tour starts at 35 USD for an hour, 60 USD for two hours and three hours for 80 USD. They include a lesson and private lessons are also possible.
Nature lovers must see Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. It was started in 1938 to provide nesting, resting and wintering habitats for migratory birds, like the greater snow goose, waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds, raptors and neo-tropical migrants. It also serves to provide protection and habitat for endangered and threatened species, like Loggerhead sea turtles and it is a great place to educate oneself about wildlife and wildland resources.
Other Things to Note:
Security Cameras are on the outside of the house, and are recording during a reservation, NO cameras are inside the home or have a view of the inside of the house.
Noise detection sensors installed at the property – These devices monitor decibel levels at the property 24 hours a day and automatically notify us if noise levels are too high.
