About this property

A small home with a big welcome!

The Blue Bear Cabin is a quiet, comfortable home base for your outdoor adventures and a peaceful place to reconnect with family and friends. Located a few miles outside of Cedaredge, on the southern slope of the Grand Mesa, convenient to nordic and alpine skiing, hiking, fishing, and hunting. Watch deer stroll through your amazing view of the Mesa during the day, and enjoy awesome stargazing around the firepit at night.
The cabin kitchen is fully equipped to cook up some great meals, down to Tupperware and plastic wrap in the drawers. There's an instant pot, crockpot, waffle iron, blender, immersion blender, electric griddle, toaster, and plenty of pots, pans, and mixing bowls. Outside is a charcoal grill.
Lift up the lid of the trunk in the living room to find an assortment of games and activities for all ages. The cabin sleeps four comfortably; five if one is a small child sleeping on the Regalo My Cot.
There's plenty of room to park your trailer by the cabin; just stay on the gravel. And no special vehicle is necessary; the roads are plowed and slopes are gentle right to the front door.
If you plan to bring a dog, please review the house rules before booking. We do have a large dog crate available if you'd like to use it. It measures 20"Wx34"lx30"h.
Let us know prior to check-in if you'd like to use the child's cot, highchair, or dog crate during your stay so we can have them in the cabin when you arrive.
For our guests staying more than seven nights, we offer a complementary linen change and light cleaning at the halfway point, or every seven days. Arrange a mutually convenient four-hour window with us.
The entire cabin and environs are for your use. The 10-acre lot (shared with our house) is bordered by Timothy Rd. to the north, the fence line to the east in back of the cabin, and the fence line running along the west side at the entry to the property. The south side has no fence, but if you reach the neighbor's house you've gone too far. :)

Ski Trip to the Grand Mesa
We had a wonderful stay. The house was lovely and warm. Loved the Blue Bear cookies and the mural in the queen bedroom. Great location to visit the Grand Mesa National Forest, both in the winter and summer. The Grand Mesa Nordic Council grooms the trails on top of the Mesa everyday and the snow is fabulous. We will definitely come again to Cedaredge and stay at the Blue Bear Cabin.

On the mark
This little cabin was clean, had all the kitchen utensils you’d need, comfortable beds, clean washroom, games, internet, and privacy. We loved our stay. Highly recommend…it exceeded expectations!

Comfortable and cozy
Waking into the Blue Bear Cabin felt like walking into a home, with lots of thoughtful items in place that made our stay very enjoyable El and easy. The kids enjoyed the “treasure chest” filled with games and such. And my husband and I enjoyed the peaceful flagstone patio where we drank our coffee in the morning. Very enjoyable stay and we will be back!

About the host

Philip and I are a semi-retired couple who have lived in Texas, the Denver area, and the coast of Mississippi. We have family in Montrose, which is what drew us to Cedaredge. We're trying to complete the house we're building near the Blue Bear Cabin, but life keeps interrupting! Philip works as a ski instructor at Powderhorn resort and I mostly goof around. We love to spend time on the Grand Mesa, whether it's hiking, horseback riding, biking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

Why they chose this property

Once we purchased the Blue Bear, we worked on improving it during summer visits. When I had the opportunity to retire early, we thought it would be great fun to build a new home and have the Blue Bear for friends and family. It's stocked and furnished pretty much like it was when we lived there, which will hopefully make our guests' visits more carefree.

What makes this property unique

We love how the cabin is not really isolated - it's not far to town - but somehow it feels tucked in the woods. Especially at night! The view of the Grand Mesa as you walk down the driveway can be spectacular.
