The private riverfront at the Vaden Hunt House is amazing...this is a beautiful, stretch of the Guadalupe River that is both wide and deep (8 - 10 ft deep) with a bluff on the other side of the river. Enjoy swimming, fishing, floating and canoeing. The view is incredible and the dock has a steel ladder for easy in and out river access. There is a canoe and a john boat with an assortment of life jackets for guests to use. (To be on the safe side - please consider bringing your own life jackets to assure proper fit and quantity for your guests.) If you would like - there are kayak & paddle board rentals available that you can make arrangements with (local outfitters) prior to your stay in Hunt.

We would love for you to spend every minute at the cabin but sometimes you may just want adventure…
This log house is convenient to all of the area summer camps and day trips are easy - you might want to check out Lost Maples Natural Area (State Park), Utopia, Garner State Park, the Frio River or Concan to the West; and Kerrville, Comfort and/or Fredericksburg for shopping or winery tours to the East. You can always hop on I-10 and go to San Antonio for Fiesta Texas / Sea World or shopping at La Cantera and more.

Please Note:
There are 2 houses on the property:
1.) the owner’s shared home away from home - which is the house closest to the river and
2.) the cabin (log house) - Vaden Hunt House (this is the vacation rental)

The family comes to the vacation home occasionally. But it will not be rented to other guests.

A letter from the family to guests:

We welcome you to this beautiful, friendly and peaceful part of the Texas Hill Country that has been a part of our family since 1962. The property is located on the South Fork of the Guadalupe River, the source of which is just a few miles away. Here, walk down to the river’s edge with your first cup of coffee in the morning and enjoy the beautiful, colorful and quiet sunrise. After breakfast, grab your float and enjoy the day swimming, fishing or boating in the fresh water of the river, and in the evening take your chairs into the yard and look up at the sky – the number of stars will amaze you. This is a place to relax and have fun. It is wonderful for friends or family weekends to get away from it all, cook together, explore nearby towns, and take long drives in the country. There are hillsides to explore, dinosaur tracks to spot, lots of rock hunting and long walks or runs in the fresh air. There are swings in the front yard that once were the swings for the 12 rock cabins that comprised the small resort of Marymeade. In the summer weekends, there is live music and great food on the patio of The Hunt Store, a rodeo and dance with a live band and dinner at Crider’s each Saturday night, outdoor plays at the Point Theatre in Ingram along with art camps and activities for all ages at the nearby Hill Country Arts Foundation, and a welcome sense of another time. For most of our lives as children, these were the things that we loved and looked forward to and they have become our family traditions with our own children. We played cards and games at night as a family and with friends, made brownies, cookies and homemade ice cream, grilled outside, and in the cold months, made fires in the fireplace. On each trip, we always made the drive to Lost Maples State Area to walk the trails and look for deer in the fields along the way. In the log house, you may see a few family photos of years past – a photo of our grandfather as a young man on a white horse, born and raised on a ranch in Menard, Texas. Another of a family card game played at the dining room table in this house, and perhaps one more of us as children getting saddled up for a trail ride at the horse barn that, in our era, was down the road. We invite you to enjoy this lovely part of the world and create your own traditions with family and friends. Bring your guitars. Visit Stonehenge in Ingram. Find that favorite homemade ice cream recipe, bring the ingredients with a box of regular salt and a small bag of ice. We have the ice cream freezer at the house for your use! Welcome.

Quiet and relaxing
This is our third time to stay at Vaden House on a 3-day Holiday weekend. Each time it has been a welcome retreat from from our home in Austin. Its quiet, rustic, and the river is about 40 yards from our front door. The river is why we come. There is a canoe available to take a trip up to the 'tubs' and its perfect to just float around on tubes all afternoon. Its a perfect get-a-way for two 65 year old adventurist's and their dog.

Unexpected First Impression
From the photo of the house and the other photo of the waterfront, I had expected the house to backup to the Guadalupe River. To get to the water, a person must walk beside the big White House on the water. However, I discovered beautiful deep water on the river frontage with a gorgeous bluff across the water. a gorgeous bluff

special part of Texas; carpet in the bathroom
This is a really special part of the Guadalupe River. We enjoyed the river in our own tubes and kayaks, and the water level was great even with such little rain. The neighboring resort and homes were full of people, but the river still didn't feel crowded. I'm grateful that dogs are allowed. The interior and porch need to be deep-cleaned for cobwebs, dead bugs, and dust. The property manager was very receptive when I let her know. The image of the bathroom is cropped in such a way that you can't see that most of floor is carpeted. The carpet begins just a few inches in front of the toilet. There's no way this can be appropriately cleaned for a short term rental. The cabin would be really comfortable if it had solid-surface flooring throughout and were thoroughly cleaned.

Quiet and Relaxing
This was our second time to stay at Vaden House. Like the first time, its a great place to relax and enjoy the Guadalupe River from the concrete dock, the canoe that's provided, and on tubes we brought with us. Its comfortable, quaint , and cozy. Be sure and read the book on the coffee table about the history of the area, especially of this part of the river when your down at the river relaxing on the dock.

Rustic river cabin
We enjoyed the location of the Vaden Hunt House. If you have ever stayed at the River Inn, it is right next door but still feels private. It is on a really nice spot on the river. The house decor is old but it most places around here are and it did t bother us. We also thought the beds were comfortable. Overall, we would probably stay here again!
