About this property

Historic cottage 100 yards from private beach on private compound

Built in the 1800’s this cottage is one of the originals on the point and full of family history. There are only 9 homes in this private beachfront community that sits on Long Island Sound. Enjoy tennis court, diving board, dock, fishing, water sports and of course simply relaxing on the beach or if you want to venture out of this quiet wonderland there are plenty of things to do within 5 miles of our compound. Take a train ride and see the wetlands, hike the trails or do some shopping in Branford. If you want to travel a little further, Mystic Seaport is a great day trip and of course New Haven is full of festivals, food and cultural events.

We enjoyed our stay at Killans Point. The cottage was located on a private road with only a few other houses. We met a few of the neighbours who were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautifully presented although one chest of drawers could do with some new knobs. We enjoyed our time with the kayaks and paddle boards, especially watching the osprey fishing in the Sound. We made full use of the games in the cupboard, particularly enjoying Sequence. The kitchen was well appointed with lots of equipment and Tupperware for storage, along with food bags. The fridge was a generous size. Supermarkets were nearby with a selection of Aldi, Walmart and Big Y, along with a CVS pharmacy only short drive away. We would absolutely recommend to friends and family.

Lovely!
This is a most sweet peaceful place in a beautiful area with access to a lovely beach down the road. Escaping the City it was everything we hoped for and Gwyn could not have been nicer or more available from start to finish.

Relaxing vacation
We were looking for a quiet place where we could relax for the week and we found it. The home is cute and definitely reminiscent of years passed but with updated amenities. The Kitchen, bathroom and mud room (laundry room) have been updated. House had all the essentials. The owner was receptive to all questions and also asked questions before accepting our booking ro make sure the house would fit our needs since it is on the small side. Con: While the view from the front porch was beautiful, the access to the beach is across the street and through a couple back yards.

A perfect week
My family of six had an amazing week! My bigger sons loved the wind surfing board that we just used as a paddleboard, My smaller children loved puttering around on the beach, and my wife and I loved exploring the little islands along the shore. The tennis court that’s right across the street and fun to play on, as well. The simple house was as promised: Three bedrooms, two upstairs, one downstairs, plus a truly lovely porch, from which we could see the ocean and a neighbors exuberant flower garden. This house is perfectly located, and a true bargain. We loved it!

About the host

This house along with most around it were built by our great great grandfather in the 1700 and 1800’s. We (3 siblings) inherited it from our grandmother who grew up on the point. The house and the private point it inhabits is rich with its own history and a little slice of heaven where you can be as in touch or out of touch with the outside world as you want. Life has its own slower pace here and the peacefulness of times gone by rejuvenates the soul, at least for us. That is not to say there isn’t plenty to do with water activities, tennis, clamming, exploring. Mornings enjoying a cup of coffee on the porch while taking in the view of the water, evenings often move us to the back yard area where we can gather and visit around a fire after a good meal. For us this place is family, careless summers where the love of sailing, tennis and rainy days playing board games on the porch or reading a book was ingrained in our souls as kids and many of our guests say they can feel the history as well. Gwyn, Richard and Shaun each rediscovered this joy while spending time there last summer after the year round tenants moved on and decided to follow the original plan, use it for the month of June and support the house by renting it out for others to enjoy the rest of the year. We hope people will enjoy their time here and want to come back yearly as regulars.

Why they chose this property

Private and peaceful, safe for kids to run around yet plenty fun summer stuff to do both on the water and off.

What makes this property unique

Private oasis where you can see people or not as you wish, enjoy the private community tennis court, beach and water activities or visit town museums and walking trails not 5 min away.
