About the host
Hosted by Marc
We were married on Martha's Vineyard over thirty years ago. We always dreamed of owning a home on the island and we are so fortunate to have recently made that dream come true! We are excited to share our island home with you. We've spent most of our married life in Marblehead, Massachusetts and raised our three children there. Marc studied architecture and has designed, built, and renovated several homes in the greater Boston area. Marc is a licensed captain and can often be found sailing Patriot between Maine and the islands around Martha's Vineyard. Mimi is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design and Bennington College. She is a graphic designer, fine artist and a talented interior designer. You will find many of Mimi's original paintings, photographs and drawings throughout our Vineyard home. If this is your first visit to the Vineyard, we are certain you will fall in love with its' beauty and charm just as we have. If you visit the island often, well then, Welcome back!
What makes this property unique
The house at 26 William Street was built in 1837 for Thomas Bradley, who later that year, sold it to an old friend and financial backer, Captain Shubael Norton. Captain Norton commandeered the whaling ship, Splendid. From 1839 through 1872, Splendid sailed from Martha's Vineyard a total of nine times. She was fourth in the top ten revenue producing Vineyard whaling ships of her time. The good Captain purchased the home for his sister's husband, Jeremiah Crowell who was a shoemaker and had a shop on Main Street. In 1843, he sold it to his nephews, Hiram and William Crowell, both mariners who lived in Eastville. The house eventually became the home of Jeremiah's third son, Benjamin, the local coal merchant.
