Wonderful stay
Our stay was great and relaxing. Steve was a great host and is very friendly. Our cabin was clean and inviting. His two dogs, Yuper and Jasmine great guests as we they come and go. Steve is gracious allowing other pets as guests and has impressive dog handling experience. If you are looking for a relaxing and quiet place to stay to get away I would highly recommend this resort!

A quiet remote respite
Communication with host was excellent. Lovely quiet peaceful setting closer to crisp point where we spent most of our time. My husband did not follow the host rule to the letter and was chastised for it. Although he did stay on the back porch with all windows open. I cleaned small spider webs In corners and wiped down lamp shades but other than that the facility was clean, warm, and well appointed with any necessities. We appreciated the peace for our very short break from caring for an aggressive Alzheimer’s patient.

Rustic Retreat
If you can brave the 10 miles down a dirt road to get here it's a wonderful getaway. The cabin was much nicer than we expected and my kids loved playing down by the lake and roasting marshmallows over the fire. Overall it was a great vacation at Culhane Lake

Peaceful Retreat
My father and I had a wonderful stay for 5 nights in Septwmber of 21. The cabin and amenities were exactly as described. We wanted an upgrade from tent camping and this property fit the bill. It had just the right amount of convenience while still feeling like you got away from it all. We enjoyed not having wifi or a cell phone signal(4G is available a quick 10 minute drive south of the property.) Beds were comfortable, shower was warm, stove and microwave in good working order. We enjoyed fishing from the dock and a nice campfire by the lake. The property was very dog friendly if you're looking to bring your dog.

About the host

Host profile image
Our involvement with the area began about fourteen years ago when one of us began indulging a need to run sled dogs that developed into an ongoing interest, as well as added canine members to our family over the years.
We dreamed off and on over the years of owning a place in the Upper Peninsula in the area of Culhane Lake, but the right place and the right time hadn’t presented. It was a time to for us to visit, love the area, but also have to leave for home after each wonderful trip.
A few years back a musher friend passed away, and we went to look at his former lodge. The spot wasn’t quite right for us, but the realtor told us that Culhane Lake Resort was on the market, and worth a look.
This little hamlet of cabins had clearly seen a lot of life, and needed some work, but as we looked through the trees out to the lake we only saw wonderful possibilities to finally have our own retreat in the upper peninsula.
We didn’t have to think about it very long, since by the time we made it to nearby Newberry we decided to stop off and make an offer.

Why they chose this property

Families, artists, writers, and mushers have been coming to Culhane Lake Resort to escape everyday life, and experience the wild beauty of the Lake Superior’s coastline and the surrounding area for generations - we would love to be your hosts to begin making this experience a tradition of your own!

Escape life’s hectic pace and return to nature, it’s good for the soul!
