About this property
Peaceful countryside location in the heart of the Pic Saint Loup, Languedoc
If you’re looking for a peaceful location to relax amidst stunning, unspoilt scenery, then you’ve come to the right place. Domaine de Cantafaroune, a former winery, is nestled amongst rolling hills and surrounded by the storied vineyards of Pic Saint-Loup, north of Montpellier, between the Mediterranean and the Cevennes mountains.
You can enjoy an extensive choice of trails around the property – on horseback, by bicycle, on foot or even on an electric scooter – or just soak up the sun by the pool (shared with our second gite for 2) with its summer kitchen and breath-taking views over the Pic Saint Loup mountain, the vineyards and the surrounding hills. You can relax in one of two large gardens, or do something a little more energetic – badminton, table tennis or lawn tennis, to name a few.
If you fancy a tour of some of the local mediaeval villages, the gite is within easy reach of many historic locations, including the famous circular villages of Languedoc, along with the Roman towns of Nîmes and Arles. Alternatively, the vibrant university city of Montpellier is just a 25-minute drive away, and if you head out just a little farther, you will come to the beautiful sandy beaches along the Mediterranean coastline.
Needless to say, there is an endless choice of wineries to visit too, many of them offering vineyard trails, a variety of activities and of course tastings. And for a relaxing end to the day, you can enjoy a lovely chilled glass of rosé on the terrace.
All the shops you need are within just a five-kilometre radius and there’s a great selection of restaurants and wine bars too.
The gite itself has a spacious, fully equipped kitchen/dining area leading into a snug lounge with two sofas, a flat screen television and a wood burner for those cosy winter evenings. Complimentary wifi access is provided. The bathroom is equally spacious, with a walk-in shower, as is the master bedroom with its sweeping views of the countryside and gorgeous sunsets. The second bedroom with its twin beds offers the same bucolic atmosphere. Free off-road parking is provided, as is all the household linen – towels, sheets, tea towels, quilt covers etc.
Domaine de Cantafaroune has all the modern-day comforts, including air conditioning, but it has kept its old-world charm with its exposed beams, its inglenook fireplace and its wooden floors. So if you fancy staying where grape pickers trod before you, then this is the ideal place for you!
