Black Lake Mountain Retreat. The rural setting welcomes birds and bird watchers.
Attached two story house in a quiet rural area situated between forest and meadow which teems with birds and hawks, and is visited by deer and elk and the occasional coyote. I garden with native plants and encourage visits from a variety of birds. Which use the 40 foot spruce as their own apartment. A pair of red tail hawks hunt in the back pasture. You can catch them on camera while having coffee on the back porch.
Centrally located in the Moreno Valley/Black Lake area at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo mountains it is an easy drive to a variety of interesting day trips. See Charley's Hideaway Guest House (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61550969463137) for more details and seasonal updates.
The main floor is an open plan with large living area with wood burning stove. It opens into a gourmet kitchen and family dining. Meals can be prepared without leaving the discussion of the day's adventures.
Driveway ample for two vehicles but not motorhomes.

Our fifth year staying here, so we obviously enjoy the location and accommodation. We have 2 dogs with us, and they love being here. Jacqui is a gracious, friendly and helpful host. The facilities are perfect for our needs. A well-equipped kitchen, 1 1/2 bathrooms, washer and dryer, meets all our needs for our month away from home.
We had a great stay at this cozy and quiet home! The house itself was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The mountain views were absolutely stunning—sunrises and sunsets were a treat each day. One of our favorite parts was the abundance of wildlife; birds were everywhere, and we spotted all kinds of animals during our stay. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway with beautiful scenery!
We had a good stay at Black Lake Mountain Retreat. Loved that there was a small fenced in back yard for our dogs. They are not very big so it would have been better if the grass was cut but it worked out fine. Not much traffic so we could go for walks with the dogs. There was plenty of room inside the house and it was stocked with everything that you need.
Great location for trips to Angel Fire, Taos, and Eagle Nest. Family enjoyed the amenities and felt at home during the stay. Great rental for family and furry friends.
I was having work done on my house and booked Jacqui's place so I could escape from the mess at night. The area is quiet and beautiful, the house was perfect for me, quite comfortable, with everything I needed. I and my dog enjoyed our stay very much.
This house was a wonderful place to stay for our annual family ski vacation. Our girls stayed in one bedroom, allowing dad to get up early and have coffee downstairs without disturbing them. The kitchen was fully equipped, allowing us to have family dinner at the nice wood table a few nights. The nice views out each window and the comfortable sofa and chairs made for a relaxing evening after hitting the slopes, which were only 10 minutes away.
Jaqui has done a great job making this little home warm and cozy. We enjoyed the quiet, bucolic setting and the spacious, homey furnishings. Beds and linens were comfortable, everything was clean and well-maintained. We were glad to stay and will return next time!
We enjoyed our stay very much. The living area is even larger than in the photos. The kitchen has everything we could need. Great views. There were several types of birds even in winter. Jacqui's beautiful art decorated the walls. Our 2 small dogs loved the back yard. We would definitely stay here again.
The property and facilites were comfortable, clean and the owner was plesant and suggested local areas to explore which didn't dissappoint our adventurous spirit.
This is a great place to get away. Very quiet except for the wind.. only a few minutes away from angel fire resort.. easy to get to.. the host is super nice and a very tallented artist.. we had a very good stay....
We were so thankful to find this property. The price was low, the location made it very easy to get to Angel Fire for skiing and it offered plenty of space for our family of five. Jacqui had the home decorated for Christmas when we came which we loved. Our kids enjoyed playing outside in both the back and front yard. Having a washer and dryer and fully stocked kitchen also made our ski trip very easy. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were dark so we slept very well! We would for sure book this property again. Excellent value for a wonderful mountain getaway!
We had an excellent time staying here. The owner lives onsite, but you’d never know it. The property is as it’s described in the listing. We brought our two dogs and they enjoyed the fenced-in yard. Plenty of pots, pans, and utensils allowed us to cook all our meals at the home. Absolutely beautiful area of New Mexico. Would highly recommend.
The place was perfect for my dad, brother and I to go fishing at Eagle Nest. We took a beautiful drive to Red River as well. The place has everything you could ask for. Highly recommended.
Our family of 5 stayed here very comfortably. We had everything we needed. The space was a cheerful and we enjoyed the beautiful views from the property.
