Black Lake Mountain Retreat. The rural setting welcomes birds and bird watchers.
Attached two story house in a quiet rural area situated between forest and meadow which teems with birds and hawks, and is visited by deer and elk and the occasional coyote. I garden with native plants and encourage visits from a variety of birds. Which use the 40 foot spruce as their own apartment. A pair of red tail hawks hunt in the back pasture. You can catch them on camera while having coffee on the back porch.
Centrally located in the Moreno Valley/Black Lake area at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo mountains it is an easy drive to a variety of interesting day trips. See Charley's Hideaway Guest House (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61550969463137) for more details and seasonal updates.
The main floor is an open plan with large living area with wood burning stove. It opens into a gourmet kitchen and family dining. Meals can be prepared without leaving the discussion of the day's adventures.
Driveway ample for two vehicles but not motorhomes.

This rustic cabin with great views 10 mins outside of Angel Fire was great for our stay with our dogs. Though it was very dusty, the kitchen and linens were well-stocked, and the fenced yard was good for the dogs.
I was having work done on my house and booked Jacqui's place so I could escape from the mess at night. The area is quiet and beautiful, the house was perfect for me, quite comfortable, with everything I needed. I and my dog enjoyed our stay very much.
Jaqui has done a great job making this little home warm and cozy. We enjoyed the quiet, bucolic setting and the spacious, homey furnishings. Beds and linens were comfortable, everything was clean and well-maintained. We were glad to stay and will return next time!
Our family of 5 stayed here very comfortably. We had everything we needed. The space was a cheerful and we enjoyed the beautiful views from the property.
The place was perfect for my dad, brother and I to go fishing at Eagle Nest. We took a beautiful drive to Red River as well. The place has everything you could ask for. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed our stay at Jacqui's house. It is like one half of a duplex, with the bedrooms upstairs, and lots of space. It is in a beautiful location, great for star gazing. Would stay again!
We enjoyed our stay very much. The living area is even larger than in the photos. The kitchen has everything we could need. Great views. There were several types of birds even in winter. Jacqui's beautiful art decorated the walls. Our 2 small dogs loved the back yard. We would definitely stay here again.
We love staying at Jacqui’s place. This is our second year to stay here and it is perfect. Couldn’t ask for a better place or host. Jacqui is super friendly and accommodating. Thank you again for a wonderful stay. We will be booking again soon.
This was our fourth year staying at the Black Lake Mountain Retreat. It is perfect for a long stay with dogs. The back yard is fenced, and there are plenty of places to walk your friends.
The house is well equipped with everything you need to cook meals. Of course the scenery is beautiful, the hummingbirds plentiful, not to mention the hawk, bluebirds and many others we will be back!
Super cute and cozy house with a very helpful and friendly owner. She lives next door and helped us so much as we are not great at driving in snow. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back. Thank you so much for everything.
Black Lake Artists' Retreat is true to it's name. Peaceful and quiet, the house is located in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. The house itself is full of colorful paintings by the owner as well as custom painted furniture and hand sewn touches.
A delightful place to stay.
Great place. If you are looking for a easy going low maintenance stay this is your place. Backyard doesn’t have a lot of space but was great for letting dogs out between skiing. Not the fanciest place but has everything anyone would need. Owner was right next door for any needs. Her art is displayed in the house and is a great addition. Would highly recommend for the price and location.
Looking forward to going and watching the birds and animal, in October. Looking forward to going haven’t been to Eagles Nest since a child when I got to with my parents.

Nice location a few miles from the town Angel Fire, in a valley area with cows roaming nearby fields. Our dog enjoyed having a backyard to run in, and loved watching the cows. House is cozy and warm with a well appointed kitchen for cooking our own meals. Also nice to have a full size washer and dryer. Easy and moderate trails to hike nearby, which our dog loved!
The house was beautiful and easy to find. It had everything you could need including utensils, can opener, etc. The view was amazing. Every night you could see a hawk from the kitchen window. The bedrooms are all located upstairs which we loved. If someone wanted to rest the others could stay up and not bother the sleepy ones. We definitely enjoyed our stay.
This cabin was comfy, warm, and plenty of amenities, however, we found hair (dog and human) every where. We had to change the sheets when we first got there because of all the hair in the bed. There was a lot of snow on the ground and it was warm inside.
We stayed here with our dog for four nights during the Fall color season. It was very comfortable and pleasant. The house was well stocked with many essentials and more. The Wi-Fi worked well - we could stream HD movies. The location is nice near Eagle Nest Lake, Cimarron Canyon and a short drive away from Red River or Taos / Rio Grande Gorge. Fuel and groceries are readily available in Angel Fire. There are many trails in the vicinity with difficulty ratings from easy to more challenging. On and near the property itself we could see wildlife such as deer, hawks and prairie dogs. We would definitely recommend this place.

Would not recommend this to my friends
The owner was next door and rather grumpy when ask for help on WiFi
We found mouse droppings in the drawers of the kitchen!
The downstairs 1/2 bath sink was digustingly dirty!
There was no A/C. She said we wouldn’t need it. It was 78-80 degrees every day we were there. Her answer was open the windows.
I forgot my pillow I always take with me and she said she would have to see about sending it back because she’d have to take time to find and box and then have to take time to mail it.
We would never recommend this place.
Loved this VRBO - it was so cozy for my husband and our standard poodles. The bed was super comfortable. Just overall a super nice place. And Jacqui was an amazing host and wonderful artist!! Her art is throughout the VRBO.
Our fifth year staying here, so we obviously enjoy the location and accommodation. We have 2 dogs with us, and they love being here. Jacqui is a gracious, friendly and helpful host. The facilities are perfect for our needs. A well-equipped kitchen, 1 1/2 bathrooms, washer and dryer, meets all our needs for our month away from home.
