Bigwood Island is your ultimate, private, secluded family retreat on beautiful Georgian Bay, overlooking a sheltered harbour.   Exceptional and magnificent 36-acre island with stunning views of Georgian Bay.  Activities include: canoeing, kayaking, camping, swimming, fishing, hiking, summer boating.  For those who enjoy nature and peace and quiet, Northern Georgian Bay is far less populated with cottages than other areas of the Bay and has direct access to some of the finest boating and fishing in North America.

The island can comfortably accommodate your group (max of 10 persons in June/September, max of 16 in July / August / first week of September), throughout its 5 authentic cottages, which include a total of 11 bedrooms, 13 beds, and 6 bathrooms (note: 2 cottages, 6 bedrooms, 8 beds, 3 bathrooms for June/September).

The five cottages are: Main Lodge, Log Cabin, Play Cabin (available only July / August / first week of September), Indian Cabin (available only July / August / first week of September), and Pointe Cabin (available only July / August / first week of September). 

There is good cell-phone reception, and Wifi is accessible in the Main Lodge, Log Cabin, and Play Cabin.  An outdoor stone BBQ showcases exceptional sunsets and panoramic views of the bay and La Cloche mountains to the northwest. 

All cottages are linked together by a network of footpaths trails and rustic wooden bridges, delivering endless spectacular bay views.

Perfectly situated at the mouth of Byng Inlet in a pristine area of the Bay, and surrounded almost entirely by Crown land for ultimate privacy, Bigwood private island is a beauty of smoothly sloping granite, covered by lush white pine forests, featuring breathtaking and sweeping western views of iconic Georgian Bay landscapes and waterscapes.

[] The island is just a 10-minute, protected boat ride from the local Britt marina. The channel is wide and deep, ensuring safe passage in any weather; and a low lying island to the North West creates a natural, sheltered harbor perfect for float planes and any number of boats and watercraft.

Overlooking the harbor, the Main Lodge built in 1905, has been lovingly and meticulously restored.  Tastefully furnished, it retains the charming ambience of a classic, turn-of-the-century, Georgian Bay cottage, and exudes the warm style of a bygone era, while offering the comfort of state-of-the-art modern conveniences.
A classic, newly-rebuilt wrap-around porch allows access from most of the main rooms, while a newly-rebuilt rear deck off the kitchen is great for sunbathing and al fresco dining.

[] Dining Room: a beautifully proportioned room filled with antique pieces including a central refectory table and hanging brass chandelier.  Windows and French doors along the entire length of the dining room allow access to the covered verandah, stunning water views and gently filtered natural light.
[] Living Room with stone fireplace: the supremely comfortable living room is anchored by a massive dry stone wood burning fireplace.  Opposite is a library/study area with floor to ceiling bookshelves, a library ladder, and writing desk.  Large upholstered sofas and armchairs create conversation areas around the fireplace and invite cozy lounging.  French doors lead to the front verandah.

Log Cabin is a beautifully appointed cottage.  Originally from Eastern Ontario, it was dismantled and rebuilt on its current site on the island’s southwest point.
