## Emplacement
In the Pas-de-Calais, Montreuil-sur-Mer is probably one of the most beautiful cities of the Opal Coast. It welcomes visitors in a very nice flowery and picturesque setting. Walk through the alleys and alleys, such as the famous rue du Clape-en-Bas, to discover typical low houses of the eighteenth century, or the cavée Saint-Firmin, a very steep street.
The upper town is surrounded by 3 km long and perfectly preserved ramparts, which you can walk through. Inside sits a 16th-century citadel that was built on the site of an ancient royal castle and then rebuilt by Vauban. Every summer there is a sound and light show that plunges spectators into the universe of one of Victor Hugo’s flagship works: Les Misérables. Following his visit in 1837, the writer was inspired by Montreuil-sur-Mer to install one of his main characters, Jean Valjean under the name Monsieur Madeleine.
