Felt like I was at a friends house more than a rental
So all in all we really enjoyed our stay but for the sake of providing honest feedback here’s where they could do better:
1. Functionality- lightbulbs out or flickering in several rooms. Batteries dead in remote controls. Soap dispensers almost empty. One of the TVs didn’t work. You get the idea…Individually none of it is a big deal but when it’s one thing after the other it’s annoying. Small touches make a big difference so make sure everything works. I’d rather buy my own hand soap then realize there’s only one pump in the bottle provided ya know?
2. Cleanliness- no getting around this one, the house was not clean enough when we received it. Surface clean yes, but there was hair and mildew in the bathrooms, dust bunnies under the beds and every corner seemed to have been untouched for a long time. My kids have allergies and one was unable to sleep the first night due to the dust. We sent him to stay with family while we did our own cleaning to get it under control. Not how I expect to begin the vaca.
3. Too many family photos. I’ve never stayed in a vacation rental with even one picture of the owners on display. Far less having them on every wall in every room. It was kinda hard finding a place to take our own pics without having murals of the owners family in the background which might sound like a petty complaint but seriously, framed pictures taking up space on the already tiny bathroom counter? I wondered if it was just me but literally all our guests found it weird - I mean they even have 5 family pics lining their stationary and for me that would have been sufficient and lovely a personal touch. Everything else felt a bit much.
On the plus side I should note we were there for the Xmas holidays and were thrilled to find the house decorated for the season. Not expected but a wonderful touch that made a huge difference for our family!!!!
It seems these owners are new to the game and, if so, I recommend they take the time to do it right because there’s plenty of opportunity for them to succeed. Seemed like really nice people and perhaps just getting into the industry. My advice: do some redecorating, hire a professional cleaning crew and make sure everything being offered is functional. I definitely see potential here and might even consider rebooking if they take my advice ;)
