Vesteregn cottage area is located right in the middle of a series of nature pearls. Immediately north of Vesteregn is Salme Nor, and then you come to Tryggelev Nor, which is a coastal lagoon, home and resting place of many rare bird species. The area is designated a nature reserve under the Bird Protection Fund. With the redevelopment of Nørreballe Nor, the impressive reserve will be expanded from 100 to 189 ha. With lakes, reed lakes, meadows, scrub and small forests, the area is now one of Denmark's most bird-rich wetlands. Birds and nature of the area are protected by the EU Birds and Habitats Directives, which thereby elevate it to one of the finest nature areas in the EU. Driving south to the cozy fishing town of Bagenkop, which also has a large marina, you first come to Kise Nor, which is grazed by wild horses. This grazing ensures a very varied plant life, which is the food source of many different animals and birds.
