About this property

Stay in our Hational Historic Landmark home!

Note: Despite any verbiage added by the listing website or ads you might see, this is not a “whole house.” Nobody gets the entire 15,000 square-foot house. I’ve got to live somewhere!

Take over the entire second floor of our historic home. Sleep 8 or more people in our three rooms totaling 4 beds with 2 large couches. and a rollaway bed if needed. Each room has its own private bathroom.

All three former bed and breakfast units share a private entrance and a second floor kitchenette. The kitchenette currently does not have a stove but it has other kitchen appliances including refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. There is also a gas grill and a fire pit by the pool area.

Relax by our pool or have fun on the Har-Tru tennis court or croquet court of our Genesee Volley Tennis and Croquet Club on the property. Bring your racket and tennis shoes, croquet equipment is supplied. After you book, please contact us if you’re interested in playing in our club’s Tennis or Croquet leagues on weekdays.

Take a hike around our 70 acre farm teeming with wildlife. We are located within the Village of Geneseo, a short walk from Main Street and SUNY Geneseo. Conesus Lake and Letchworth State Park are within a short drive.

. A 4th unit, the Garden Suite, with a separate private entrance, is also available as a single unit (See VRBO # 2335772) or take all 4 units (VRBO # 2339466) If you do not take all four units you may have to share the pool area with guests staying at the Garden Suite.

These 3 units are open May1 - mid October and the property is also available for weddings and events during that time. Our Garden Suite is open year-round and is also the only unit that allows pets.

Historic home
Perfect location! The beautiful, historic property felt like you were worlds away, but we were less than a minute to Town. The house was amazing. I’m sure if the walls could talk they would have stories to tell. We had a wonderful stay!

Perfect stay at the Hartford House
The Hartford House was the perfect place to stay for our college reunion. My friends and I were able to stay together, and gather for catching up and reminiscing about college days. The grounds are beautiful, and so peaceful to sit and visit. We really appreciated the space and beautiful historical home. The owner was so kind to give us a Tour of the rest of the estate. It was an honor to stay in such a historic home with such a wonderful history. Thank you ! We will be back. Lisa

Relaxing countryside stay (near town)
We had such a fun and relaxing stay at the Hartford House. The bedrooms all have AC and their own bathrooms, and it was very convenient to have the kitchenette on our floor (2nd floor). We loved swimming in the pool, playing tennis, and playing in the front yard. It is a private home set back from the town, but it is not a far walk to Main Street of Geneseo. Thank you!

About the host

Host profile image
I am the 6th generation to live in the house built by my great-great-great grandfather Civil War General James S. Wadsworth in 1835. The Hartford House is listed as a National Historic Landmark. Tours of the house can be arranged. The house is home to the recently formed Gen. James S. Wadsworth Institute of History and Geneaology. I am a rabid tennis and croquet player which is why I founded the Genesee Volley Tennis and Croquet Club on the property. When not playing, you can find me working on the farm or at my Main Street print shop.

Why they chose this property

This property is ideal for small weddings, reunions and other family events such as rehearsal dinners or bridal showers. Our (mostly covered) veranda overlooking the Genesee Valley can easily handle a party of 30-50 guests or you can have have the same number barbecue around the in-ground pool. (Gas grill provided!) Thinking bigger? Our walled garden on the south end of the house is an ideal venue for smaller weddings and parties of up to 125 guests, while our larger formal garden can easily accommodate up to 250 guests or more! (Additional charges may apply depending on the size of your event! Note: Weddings and other events are only booked from May 15-Oct. 15.)

What makes this property unique

The property is located in the Village of Geneseo with an easy walk to Downtown. It is a 70 acre park-like property teeming with wildlife, and also has a 5-acre vegetable farm. Hiking opportunities are available, or if you prefer competitive sports, you can use our Har-Tru tennis court or large "golf" croquet court. With proper notice, we can even work you into some doubles matches at our Genesee Volley Tennis & Croquet Club on the property. Tennis and Croquet equipment is available, but you will need flat court shoes to play on the Har-Tru. Sorry, no running shoes allowed.
