## Emplacement
Pierrefitte-sur-Seine is a commune in the Seine-Saint-Denis region of Île-de-France. A small seigneury dependent on the abbey of Saint-Denis from the 9th century, Pierrefitte-sur-Seine was until the middle of the 19th century a village living from agriculture and the exploitation of gypsum and plaster.
After the arrival of the railway in 1856, the city was first a resort for the inhabitants of the capital, then its industry developed (curtains, railway equipment), but it retained a real vegetable and horticultural activity. Its urbanization intensified during the 20th century in the form of pavilions and then large ensembles. Pierrefitte-sur-Seine has a population of just under 30,000. On its territory, however, many green spaces have been preserved and, at the beginning of the 21st century, the site of the National Archives dedicated to the preservation of post-revolutionary documents was created there.
The painter Maurice Utrillo, who spent his childhood in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, immortalized the city in several paintings. A cultural space dedicated to him preserves and presents many of his works. All the more reason to visit the city during a stay in the Paris area.
