About this property
Luxury Mt. House Govt. Camp Holiday, Ski, Hike, Wine tasting! Sleeps 8, Dog ok
This custom-built cedar cabin is four stories high and is located at the 4000 foot level of majestic Mt. Hood. The eastern exposure and large windows bathe the interior with bight, natural light. The tall vaulted ceiling adds to the spacious feeling. A spiral staircase leads to the tower. It's a favorite area for viewing the alpenglow on Mt. Hood, enjoying a glass of wine, planning the next day's activities, reading or taking a nap near the wood stove. You are in the tree tops, eye-to-eye with the ravens. It's everyone's favorite spot.
Spring, Summer and Fall you can hike and bike many trails and lakes in the area.
We hired Jerry Gomes as our builder, not only because of his excellent reputation, but also because he was in charge of the quality restoration projects at historic Timberline Lodge. His touch is evidenced by the custom Timberline front door with its handmade wrought iron hardware and rams head knocker. He hand-selected the blue pine used for the interior. Since the cabin was built it has been repeatedly updated and meticulously maintained.
On a warm day you can open the windows to allow the pine-scented alpine air to waft in. To take the chill away you can light a fire in the wood stove or simply turn up the thermostat for central forced air heat.
Summer or winter, outdoor activities, total relaxation, and lifelong memories are a certainty.

About the host
Hosted by Heidi Lawrence

Signe Lawrence's father moved to Mt. Hood in the late 1930's. He owned and operated a ski shop in the winters and conducted horse pack trips around Mt. Hood in the summers. In 1948 he married my mother and, as they say, the rest is history. Signe grew up in Government Camp. She says she feels fortunate that our family loves the mountain as much as I do with all the year-round recreational opportunities it has to offer. Now our children and grandchildren look forward to their trips to the mountain to play, breathe the alpine air, and feel more relaxed than ever in the high altitude. Current owners, Bradley and Heidi Lawrence own the Lawrence Gallery Sheridan in the wine country as well as this lovely mountain home. We hope one day our children will continue on this legacy.
Why they chose this property
The cabin is built on land that has been in the family since the 1930's. I grew up in the shadows of Mt. Hood, learned to ski on the nearby slopes, and hike most of the trails on the mountain. It is a recreational wonderland. Those fortunate enough to experience this place develop memories to last a lifetime.
What makes this property unique
The cabin is a five minute walk from the Government Camp town center as well as the Mt. Hood National Forest Service boundary. By car or shuttle it is minutes away from Timberling Lodge and three major ski resorts. In the summer, it is a beautiful area for backpacking, day hiking, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking and any manner of outdoor activities. An action park with an alpine slide, go carts, bungee jumping and other activities is available for entertaining kids. Wild flowers abound throughout the summer depending on the altitude and wild huckleberries may be picked in the late summer.
