Buffalo Mountain Retreat

Summit County became our permanent home in 2008-2009, when we gave up our careers in Arkansas and moved to Breckenridge. Mike has been skiing out here since he was in his teens. I wasn’t introduced to the mountains until he brought me here in 2004. We drove up from Little Rock, Arkansas, drove through Denver and I saw the mountains for the first time. I got chill bumps and have been hooked ever since. We always knew we would retire out here… we just didn’t know we would do it so soon.

Mike had his own Trucking Brokerage Company and when the economy tanked in 2008, so did his business. So we shut it down and he came and worked at the ski area the winter of 2008-2009, while I stayed home and worked the “real” job. I was a Sr. Electrical Avionics Engineer, designing the most advanced corporate jet in the world at that time. In the fall of 2009 we were getting ready to send Mike back out for the winter when rumors started of a lay off where I worked. I went to my boss and said, “Pick Me”, and he did! So we packed up our big house in Arkansas and moved into a little apartment in Breckenridge. We haven’t looked back… and we’ve been living the dream out here ever since.

We have worked various jobs around the county since we moved here… lift operations on the mountain, tour guides and zipline guides, shuttle drivers, Uber Drivers and Rental Property Managers. We have done a lot… but learned a bunch about this area. So if you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask. You will find that we are pretty easy to talk to and love to share our passion for Colorado with others.
