Melanie is an amazing host! I love this place! So much like going back in time. It is authentic rather than gimmicky. I can’t say enough good things. We stayed when it was decorated for Christmas but I’d love to see it as normal too. All the detail was so well executed. And it smelled like my grandmas house! This house made me feel happy, secure, loved, and hugged. Book without hesitation.

These guests were an absolute pleasure to host. They were warm, respectful, and took wonderful care of the home during their Christmas stay. Communication was easy, and they treated the house with genuine appreciation and care.
It was especially enjoyable meeting them in person and sharing stories about our mutual love of authentic, well-lived-in retro homes. They clearly value nostalgia and character, and it showed in how thoughtfully they respected the space.
I would gladly welcome them back anytime and highly recommend them to other hosts without hesitation.
We really enjoyed stepping back in time. We will be back for future visits.

Liked: Cleanliness, communication, location
Disliked: Check-in
I was expecting a lot of vintage memorabilia, however what you dont see in the pictures is the large amount of religious items. I'm used to people having a few things of that nature but this was enough to make us a little uncomfortable, as we aren't catholic. Otherwise the place was clean and the kids had fun with the game room. Hosts were hospitable and communicated well.

Thank you, Andy, for your thoughtful review and for being such wonderful guests! I’m delighted your family enjoyed the stay, found the home clean and comfortable, and had fun in the game room — it’s always a hit with guests of all ages—and especially cherished your daughter’s sweet note about loving the house and the retro telephones.
This home has been in my family since 1949 and was my grandparents’ house, so many of the vintage and faith-inspired pieces reflect that era’s real-life charm. It’s all part of the nostalgic “step back in time” experience that so many of our guests have loved since 2009.
We truly appreciate your feedback and are so glad you enjoyed your visit — we’d love to welcome you back anytime for another trip down memory lane at The Good Ol’ Days House!
Warm regards,
Melanie

A truly unique experience & trip back to the past.
It's above the ho-hum of a traditional hotel stay. Plenty of things to do and see.
If you are into history or fads of the past it's the place for you. I look forward to staying there again sometime.

We had an amazing time stepping back in time. We will definitely be back!
Melanie was an amazing host and went out of her way to make our stay special. We had a small gathering for a co-ed baby shower for our family who live in the valley. Our family enjoyed the property as well! We enjoyed the pin ball machine, record player and the themed bedrooms the most!

Denise and her family were great guests during their stay. They took great care of the home as if it were there own and we were happy to have them stay.
...and then some. My family and I had such a memorable stay. Every inch of the home was packed with the sights, sounds and smells of our childhood. The house is cozy, comfortable and immaculate. One note: there is only one ac unit but plenty of fans were provided. Melanie is a very gracious host and accessible. The location was perfect for our weekend activities but honestly the best times were spent in the house, taking it all in and hours on chatting on the porch. We will definitely return!

Hi Maria, what a joy it was to host your family at The Good Ol’ Days House! I’m so glad the sights, sounds, and little nostalgic touches brought back happy memories—and that the porch chats hit the spot. Thank you for noting the single A/C unit; we do keep plenty of fans on hand and I appreciate you mentioning it for future guests. You were wonderful, respectful guests and are welcome back anytime. Until next time—God bless the U.S.A. and those front-porch conversations! 💛

It was a pleasure to have you and your family and so glad you felt this was your home away from home for the Christmas holiday. You sure filled the homse with laughter, memories and great food using several homemade recipes in the kitchen. Wouldn't mind if a few leftovers were left in the 'fridge'. Thank you for staying at The Good Ol' Days House and hope you will return in the future to go back to the past!
This is by far the best VRBO experience ever! We celebrated my mom's 79th birthday as well as visiting my son who plays for the Cal football team. Walking around the house brought back so many memories! The communications from the owner were outstanding and in fact were typically responded in less than an hour. The house was extremely clean and the decorations left no detail behind. My son enjoyed the pinball machine and the arcade games and as a family we just enjoyed sitting in the living room talking. The beds were extremely comfortable. We will be staying here again for sure!

perfect!
Our stay at the Nostalgic Guest House was absolutely perfect! Melanie, and her husband Bob, were outstanding hosts and made us feel completely at home. The home was clean and inviting...and a whole lot of fun. It was a blast for our kids to get to experience so many things that we had growing up...can you say Pac Man and rotary phones?? They were our guides to and from the Steelers game and really went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. They made my husband's 40th birthday experience one he'll never forget.

It was our pleasure and we so looked forward to welcoming you to our home for a unique, nostalgic "Pittsburgh Steeler" fan experience. You are a beautiful family and we had so much fun showing you around Steeler Country. I'm also glad you found our home to clean, comfortable and memorable! We look forward to a return visit, this time we hope you'll go back to Texas with a Steeler Victory! Thanks and God Bless! P.S. The Texas license plate is at the TOP of the steps....how do you like THAT placement!
We are 50 and 52. Kids are all 20 and over. Was great to play show and tell as you explored the house. We found the place by luck, but it was excellent. Melanie is a fantastic host. So easy to work with. Clear instructions. And what a welcome to the house. Thank you again for everything. We were sending pictures to friends and family and telling everyone about it.

If you were lucky enough to grow up in the Belle Vernon area then do yourself a favor and stay at this property. It's a piece of Belle Vernon's past that is all brought together in one wonderful house that is conveniently located and within walking distance of the entire town. Enjoy the memorabilia from Kennywood, Forbes Field, the Super 71 Drive-in etc. See if you can find family members in the Belle Vernon H.S. class pictures from the fourties; I found my mother, father and two uncles!
I found the property to be exactly as advertised and extremely clean. The owner went over the top in making us feel welcome and comfortable. I would recommend this property to anyone, regardless of whether you're from the area or not.

Thanks Jim, for taking the time to share your family's experience at our home, in your former home-town. I really appreciate your comments and glad that were able to relive those days gone by at Kennywood, Forbes Field, & the Super 71 Drive-In. We are always changing and adding new Pittsburgh & Local memorabilia from the area -- and since your visit we've added a 1960s photos of Shirley Jones & autographed Bill Mazeroski photo and something for the younger ones a 1980s Pac-Man Cocktail game table in the Rumpus Room. We'd love to have you back in your home-town, Mayberry/ BVA for any future visits. Thank you & Happy Travels!

New Years Eve
My family had the pleasure in spending New Year's Eve with our grandchildren at the Good Old Days Guest House in Belle Vernon, PA. We are from New Orleans and our grandchildren live in Connellsville, Pa. We wanted to spend some of the holidays with them. The home was a true blast from the past. The decor was so true to the 40's - 70's era, The house was decorated for Christmas complete with the genuine retro toys under the Christmas tree. We were able to truly celebrate Christmas and New year's with them. The children were so enchanted with the game room and the toys and games. We had a wonderful time and would recommend it to anyone traveling to Pennsylvannia. Melanie has put such love and care into this guest house. We hope to return there very soon.

Hello Janice, Having you and your family stay in the home during the holiday season was such a treat! I enjoyed hearing your funny stories about younger family members being intrigued with the way we lived back in those good ol' days without microwaves & dishwashers. You are blessed with a such a wonderful family and hope to see you again with a future visit to THE GOOD OL' DAYS HOUSE. We will be opening an old fashioned candy store &; Antique Gift shop right across the street on June 4th 2011. It is called SWEET NOSTALGIA ON BROAD for those who want to satisfy a sweet tooth with a little piece of the past! You gotta see it -- its truly a unique shop. Take care and God Bless!
Melanie, Thank you so much for sharing your grandparents home with us. As one of our (possibly) last trips together as a family..with my daughter getting married and son graduating college soon..we thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our nostalgic getaway. We hung out, goofed off, listened to records, played Life, and watched Casablanca. Some of us got a nap in, or took a *fabulous* bubble bath (MEEE!!) It felt like being at home 💗But Better💗 We would love to come back sometime around Christmas someday🌟 You give everyone who comes here a little piece of something back that we lost long ago. Thank you. With Love, The Williams Family & Buddy🐾

About the host
Hosted by MELANIE PATTERSON
i am a former Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. United States 1993 (crowned in Las Vegas), inventor & entrepreneur. This is the former family home of my Italian immigrant grandparents who moved here in 1949. It has been in our family for 70 years and now enjoys taking guests on a trip back to the eras of the 1950s, 60s, 70s & 80s! I enjoy history and fixing up old things and currently involved in an adaptive reuse project with a brownfield riverfront property that my husband and I own nearby and the former concrete industrial warehouse that my husbands family built in 1950.
Why they chose this property
There is nothing like this anywhere. The house has been featured with Dave Crawley (KDKA & WQED Reporter) on WQED PITTSBURGH 360 where he has described the house as a 'time machine' taking you to decades of the 1950s, 60s, 70s & 80s. It is truly an experience for all you remember how to percolate coffee, fill up ice cube trays, and operate and 8 track tape we have WiFi available too -- just in case you need to stick around in this century too.
What makes this property unique
A free trip down memory lane with working Rotary phones, percolated coffee, stereos, LPs, 45s, eight track tape player, 1975 Pinball machine, Ms Pacman Tabletop game, vintage board games, polyester suit & bellbottoms in the boys' bedroom, Brownie outfit & 1950s Prom Dress in the girls' room, and lots of nostalgic experiences with family & friends that will truly be stored in your memory bank for future withdrawels. Shop in an old fashioned street filled with Antique shops, Boutiques, Bakery, Grocery store, Taverns & Churches & a Parochial school (that I attended as a child).
