About this property

Big Country Home, Great Views, Lots of Privacy, Close to Town and dog friendly!

Our home is an unexpected surprise at the end of a long driveway twisting and turning through old growth juniper trees, and up the hill! Located on a ridge and concealed from view with fourteen acres of privacy, our home welcomes you as you start your vacation! Walk thru the front gate and up to the porch...come on inside! You will find four bedrooms (one downstairs and three up), an expansive kitchen, centrally located eating area, inviting great room, two bathrooms and a few other rooms just to hang out. Our location is central to Bend, Sisters, and Redmond; a great starting place for your central Oregon adventure. Families with children will love the amount of space. The fenced in front yard is great for our K9 visitors. Couples or groups traveling together will enjoy the privacy of 3 large bedrooms. Golfers, fishermen, boaters: there is a TON of room on the property to stash your gear & cars! The Barn is where you will find foosball, ping pong, Basketball Hoop & Card/Game Table. The Well-Equipped Kitchen with it's fantastic View + Counter Space will inspire! The BBQ is just outside the kitchen on the deck. Enjoy your morning coffee out on the new expansive deck with the sun streaming over the Valley, or walk out to the lookout deck and watch the sun come up over the mountains. The dining table inside seats 6 and has 2 counter seats. We have a booster seat and a high chair. At night Mother Nature fills the dark sky with millions of stars! Don't forget to checkout the lookout deck! Great place at night to look for shooting stars. In the afternoon it's fun to sit and watch the goings on in the valley below. Oh, did I mention that the lookout deck is a great place to watch the fireworks displays on the 4th of July? Very cool.

Things to do: Summertime Fun in and around Bend! The Downtown area of Bend has a summertime Farmer's Market that is there every Wednesday in Mirror Pond Park. The Old Mill District is where you will find many shops and restaurants. Close by is the Les Schwab Amphitheater which sponsors free concerts in June, July and August; along with paid concerts. Check Bend Concerts for the entertainment schedule. Our little town of Tumalo has a fun Food Truck area downtown - it's the place to be for local flavor and relaxing. You can always take a chair lift up Mt. Bachelor to catch a spectacular sunset, eats, drinks.
Interested in cycling? Bend is the site for many cycling competitions during the summer. There are many areas in and around Bend to go cycling, too.
Fall is spectacular with lovely days to be outside and a little chill at night. Love lighting the woodstove and watching a movie.
Things to do: Like to Play Golf?: Central Oregon is a golfer's paradise! Some have called the region the 'Palm Springs of the North'. In the fall, golfing is unhurried and much less crowded. You can go 15-30 minutes north or south of our house and find several wonderful and challenging golf courses.
Fishing + Hiking: Central Oregon is like heaven for fishing enthusiasts! There are so many places to explore! We can email you info, relevant websites, etc. Honestly, a wonderful getaway for the fisherman!
Hiking is Central Oregon's middle name in the summer time! There are so many unspoiled and uncrowded spots, really close to our home. Marvel at the beauty of Smith Rock, check out the back country of the Three Sister's Wilderness area...tons of places to go!

Xmas 2024
We had a wonderful xmas with extended family, plenty of space and beds for all 8 of us. The kitchen was very roomy and particularly well-stocked. Everything was very clean and dressed up for the holidays, including a decorated tree! The master bedroom was especially comfortable and the living room was spacious enough for group games every evening. We had lots of fun playing ping pong and corn hole. I fully hope to stay here again!

Nice getaway location
The home owners are lovely people. We enjoyed our stay in this spacious home. The view is great from the property. The property is very close to Bend, but far enough away to feel like a retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.

House in Bend Oregon
The property was amazing, great views and very private. Loved the house layout and more than enough to do just at the house. We had 3 couples and our son. Loved this place however No HOVAC. We stayed in August and the house was almost unbearable. The smoke from the wildfires didn’t help. We had a great time and this house was pretty set up.

Family time
I can not thank Louise and Chris enough for our wonderful stay in their home! It was perfect for our family! We are from NJ, but 2 of 3 of our adult children live in the Sacramento area and we decided instead of just "visiting" them in Sac this year, we'd all meet up in the Bend area for a real family vacation. There were 6 of us and 1 dog in total and we never felt cramped. We had plenty of space to spread out, enjoyed being able to make breakfasts and dinners, loved hanging in the barn in the evenings to play games and just be together as a family. It's the first time in years we all stayed under one roof and my momma's heart was full! Louise is an excellent host and it was easy to be in contact with her. Any question I had was always answered promptly. She even sent pics and gave suggestions of areas to visit and checked in to make sure all was good. One of the best hosts I've ever dealt with and over the years, we've stayed in many rentals! It would get warm during the day, but open windows and fans in every room, helped a lot. Plus it drops to 50 at night, so if you leave the windows open, the house cools off very quickly!! (We come from NJ where it's hot and humid all day AND night all summer, this heat was nothing for us, lol!) Thanks Louise & Chris. If we find ourselves back in the Bend area in the future, yours would be the first house I'd look up!

Beautiful peaceful property
We loved the peacefulness and privacy of this property. The view was amazing and the sunsets were magical. The large barn with games for all made this place extra fun! 20-25 min drive from Bend but this property made it worthwhile. The layout of the home took a bit to get used to but it was perfect for our group with lots of space. We enjoyed our time very much!

About the host

Chris and I have a big family; five kids, three grandchildren, our dog and lots of stuff. We both enjoy being outdoors and that is one of the special appeals that our vacation home has. Years before we purchased our vacation home, we would camp at the nearby Tumalo State Park with all of the kids, friends, dogs. It was fun spending time with the family and camping at the river and we became very fond of the Bend area and especially Tumalo. Now, luckily, we can call this wonderful place our second home!
We currently live in the SF Bay area most of the time. It is such a treat to spend time at our vacation home, get away from all the traffic, congestion, and noise. It's a great place to relax.

Why they chose this property

It all started out that we just wanted to have a 'relaxation' spot. We discovered how comfortable we were with the pace of life and the friendly people here in Central Oregon. There is an endless variety of adventures that are just down the road from us in one direction or another.

Our rural area is priceless and yet, we are just minutes away to all of the conveniences of Bend; like shopping, restaurants, hospitals, and entertainment. For those last minute 'oops, I forgot items', there's a little country store in the town of Tumalo that has an amazing selection of stuff! (they even sell gasoline!)

Our home sits in the middle of 14 acres up on a ridge with interesting out-croppings and great vistas. We have attempted to make the indoors and the outdoors seamless with our choice of the interior paint colors and the casual decor. There are no neighbors around and the privacy is awesome! Being surrounded by big trees, natural landscaping, tons of birds and wildlife -and a big blue sky- is totally wonderful.

What makes this property unique

We love to be outdoors. One of the things we don't really have in our 'full time' house is a place for a big garden. With our vacation home, we have 10 (yep, ten!) raised beds so we can have a great garden. It can be a challenge, managing it from 500 miles away...it does change every year. If there is stuff to eat, help yourself!
