Walk like a local.

The history of Sugar Mountain, with her grandeur in snow draped winter beauty, permeates every aspect of a lively day outdoors. Hike, ski, go tubing, eat outdoors, find just the right place to be safe, warm and dry at the end of a wonder filled adventure. Enjoy!

The temperature of the home I put the temperature as a home was unbearable was unbearable

The furniture and the condo it self was nice, but it was the most horrible seven day stay it was so hot in every room we could barely sleep because of the heat. I had to go buy a fan and keep the windows open and in the daytime I was in the living room under the fan with the patio door open, just to be able to cool down a little bit in the house I’ve been in a couple Vacasa Rentals in Sugar Mountain and a lot of them do not come with AC but the homeowners put in portable AC or they have fans… and this one did not have any And I’m pretty sure they know that it gets very hot when the temperature is hot outside So if you guys are thinking about living in this condo, please come with fans if you don’t want to be feeling like you’re living in a sauna

The unit was not in rentable condition. We did not stay there. The pictures of the interior were taken many years ago. Not clean. Kitchen trash can broken. Living room trash can overflowing. sliding glass door not on track. no lock work or handle in inside. metal on metal to open. No screen, laying in deck outside. Repair parts still in plastic bags on mantle. In bedroom drawers/doors to clothing storage were broken, would not close or stay closed. Can't walk around the bed without running into drawers/doors. On the bedspread there was an outline of where someone had laid down for a nap. In living room, ceiling fan didn't work. No way to move air. Outside the building, heavy earth moving was in progress that appeared to be from recent flooding damage around the foundation. Dust in the air and equipment noise. I could feel vibration from the tamper while standing on the outside deck where the door screen was laying. There was an excavator, a large skid steer, dirt tamper and several trucks in use on the project. Couldn't open unit windows for the dust, and it was hot. No A/C. No ventilation. We could not overcome the problems. Called the Vacasa help line. Explained all the above and more. They refereed me to their local agent, Anthony, and I repeated the situation and requested a new place to stay. He took the information, provided me with a Vacasa report number 1177699. He requested that I send pictures which I tried twice to do. Don't know if they got to him. Mountain cell se

Money worthy

It’s worth what you pay. Clean and neat. Every thing works as is supposed to. I’d go back.

Ski in/out

This is a great location for ski in/out. We were able to leave skis in side of slopes and go back and forth to condo for rest and meals. The condos are a little dated but overall good value. The only major complaint is the master bed mattress was extremely worn and really needs to be replaced. After skiing you want a good night sleep and that didn’t happen.

Good location to most things!

The condo complex is older but unit 42 was updated. The kitchen was well stocked and the living room was comfortable. The deck was one of our favorite spots with the sound of the water below. Thankful for a washer and dryer after long sweaty hikes. If you come in the summer, it would be helpful to bring an extra fan for the bunk room as we didn’t feel comfortable leaving that window open during the night. The location was great! Not too far up the mountain if you plan to explore all the nearby places such as Boone, grandfather mountain, Linville falls, Elk falls or Banner Elk. Vacasa was very responsive. We would definitely stay here again!

Short stay

Nice place. Thin walls, can hear neighbors above and beside you. The ones above were obviously doing construction or something. Very loud right up to quiet time and started back up at 7 am in the morning.

Nice unit, Vacasa falls short on proper management

The unit is nice with great views of the slopes. We were surprised to receive a text letting us know that the condo would be ready for us at 5:30, as check in is stated as 4 pm. No problem, we arrived at 5:30 after a day of skiing ready to take showers and go meet family for dinner. The cleaners arrived shortly after we did and the unit had yet to be cleaned. We had to forego our showers as the cleaners stated there were no clean towels. We returned later that evening and the unit was clean. We did have to fold towels left in the dryer, and not all of the beds were made which was disappointing as we were all ready for a quick shower and the bed. The next morning we discovered the coffee pot had a large crack and was not usable. They did replace the coffee pot that afternoon. The sliding door to the deck does not fully close which makes the room chilly- something that another renter mentioned back in early December in their review. We would not rent this unit again and we will be avoiding any rentals managed by Vacasa.

Some suggestions

Fix the back door. It greatly affects the heat in the unit. Give guest more than 1 dish towel and more than one garbage bag. The bags were very cheap and broke. We chose this unit because we wanted to be able to cook and it wasn’t as stocked as most of the places we have stayed. If you provide Hulu on your tv you should also provide a log in so we have an option of watching tv

Worst experience ever

The condo was dirty, the smart lock code didn’t work, couldn’t get in for an hour, front door lock didn’t work from inside either, couldn’t lock it from inside. Coffee maker was missing. Nothing was fixed while we stayed.

Great condo at base of Sugar Mountain ski area.

I stayed on this condo in January 2023 as base for a ski trip. The condo is located at the base of Sugar Mountain ski area and you can walk to ski trails. Two bedroom with two full baths. Kitchen was well equipped. Towels and linings provided.

Wow, just wow!

This mountain retreat is warm and inviting, comfortable and well stocked with all of the conveniences of home. Centrally located to plenty of restaurants and entertainment including ski in/ski out capabilities for Sugar Mountain. We planned our trip to enjoy the changing colors of the fall foliage but now hope to be able to return for the ski season. Check it out as this could be your new home away from home!!
