About the host
Your host
In Colorado for nearly fifty years! Love everything it has to offer - mountains, history, culture, dining, and fun! My wife owns and operates Clocktower Antiques on the main floor of the building. I operate GuestNav, an advertising company in town. Having lived in the Denver area and Steamboat Springs, we have made Canon City our permanent home - but we do like to travel! Hope to meet you when you visit! Cheers!
Why they chose this property
First, it's historic - the oldest commercial building in Canon. It's widely acknowledged that this is where Canon City was incorporated and where US District Judge Moses Hallett signed the treaty to end the railroad war between the Sante Fe and Denver, Rio Grande railroad companies. It was also the home of Murray's Saloon where gold seekers refreshed and relaxed before heading into the hills. Second, you're right downtown with great access to dining, parks, the Royal Gorge Railroad, river trail, and it's nice to walk the neighborhoods on a pleasant afternoon. Third, the units are very comfortable and mellow. It's a great place to chill. Even the back deck is neat to hang out on. Fourth, the antique store downstairs is full of cool items - the more you look, the more you see - check out the prison/captive art items from all over the world, old books, Native American pieces, Meerschaum pipes, and many other eccentrics. Oh, don't forget to pet Miss Kitty, one of our shop cats. Five, we send out a list of things to do in the area - you'll want to come back!
What makes this property unique
You can't always stay in a historic building, the oldest building in a community with a rich history. I'm sure the past is still actively occupying the place. No proof but you'll have to see for yourself :-) If you're comfortable walking a short distance, Skyline Drive and the River Walk are a must to do! A bit further is Tunnel Drive with the coolest carved out of rock tunnels around. The back stone part of the building is the old icehouse in Canon - it's thick walls keep the inside cool year round.
