About this property
Groovy Desert Getaway w Pool, Fire pit, Stream/Wifi, Vinyl Records, Books, Art..
The Kaleidoscope Den is an enchanting mix of groovy decor and secluded tranquility, set on 5 acres against the serene desert backdrop of Wonder Valley. Beautiful mosaic tile work graces this expanded rebuild of a midcentury homestead cabin. Unwind on the colourful blend of modern and vintage furniture as you enjoy a carefully curated selection of books and vinyl. Our oversized (10 feet!) illuminated cowboy pool is the perfect place to cool off or take in the milky way after a legendary sunset!
Located about 25 minutes from the north entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, this charming and colourful home is truly one of a kind. From the numerous mosaic tile work installations to the quirky rustic yard art there is always something interesting to discover. The ultra plush furniture and kaleidoscopic decor is an eclectic nod to the 60's and 70's but with several modern touches to keep things fresh. Nestle in and explore our collection of books or simply close your eyes and unwind with our carefully curated selection of vinyl… Classic rock, jazz, funk, electronica and more - there’s something groovy and interesting for everyone! Feel free to explore the colour wheel with LED mood lighting found in the living room and also the pool area. 420 friendly but NO SMOKING cigarettes inside please! The bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the house and each has their own separate entrance from outside, offering a nice sense of privacy uncommon in many of these desert homesteader retreats. Brand new queen size mattresses from Nectar Sleep and various pillow choices will ensure that guests have a luxurious and restful sleep. The fully equipped kitchen is stocked with all of the essentials including plenty of cold drinking water. The newly installed mini-split system keeps the place cool in the summer and hot during winter and there are ceiling fans in every room if you just want to feel a breeze. Each bedroom has its own separate AC unit for individual temperature control. There is also an incredible antique Mayflower fireplace from the late 19th century which is a delight for those cooler winter months when you just want to relax and vibe with some Netflix on the couch. The smart TV is mounted so that it can easily be positioned to face either of the living areas, and is equipped with all of the popular streaming services. Outside there are plenty of places to chill out amongst the vegetation (which includes mature palm and eucalyptus trees amongst many other beautiful plants). In addition to the shaded deck areas attached to the house itself, a separate dining structure out in the yard is the perfect spot to take in one of the majestic sunsets that Wonder Valley is famous for. A newly added BBQ gas grill is perfect for an outdoor cookout! Gather around the fire pit with some friends and marvel at the spectacular display of stars above (the area is popular with astral photographers). In the summer time the 10’ oversized cowboy pool is a fun way to get refreshed. The pool is filtered and covered to keep it clean when not in use. This private 5 acre property (2.5 acres fenced) offers beautiful views of the mountains and uninterrupted Mojave desert expanse. We do have neighbours on either side of our lot but they are separated by privacy fencing and undeveloped land, and you will rarely hear them. Also, we know are in contact with them well (both lovely people) and they are happy to help out with anything that may come up at the property :)

About the host
Hosted by Sean Casavant & Gabriela Rosales

Hello! We are Sean & Gabi, your hosts! We've been together for 9 years and have traveled all over the world together. Sean is a musician and Gabi is a fashion stylist. We first came out to the Hi-Desert area around Joshua Tree during the pandemic and fell in love the with energy and vibes out here. We began looking around and soon enough we found a property that we loved and so we took the big leap and invested! We have spent the last year living out here and fixing the place up. It's been hard work and we learned so much along the way, but we are thrilled with the place. It's so cool! We honestly wish we could spend more time out at the Kaleidoscope Den but we are also super happy to share the space with others. We love music and art of all kinds. We love travel. We love food. We love meeting new people along the path of life. Come check out our spot!!
Why they chose this property
This property was previously owned by a woman who spent the better part of 20 years living out here. She was a talented mosaic tile and glass work artist that left a beautiful imprint on the home. She also updated the original homesteader cabin in a clever and functional way with two bedrooms and a super funky bathroom space. The kitchen as well is just amazing. We immediately connected not only with the space but with the woman was well. She had such a strong energy and we could sense her magic everywhere on the property. We knew this was the spot for us. It's also so deep out in Wonder Valley that you get a true sense of detachment from the worries of the world. The stars at night out here are simply magnificent. With the naked eye, you can see the light band created by the disc of our galaxy The Milky Way. Depending on which season it is, the closest neighbours out here are rarely even home, and when they are, they keep to themselves. Despite being quite secluded, the property is only 25 minutes from the North Entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. This is the entrance that leads to what many consider to be the highlights of the entire park. Come check out our spectacular spot deep in the heart of Wonder Valley, California.
