About this property

Unique, Attractive Hexagon Cedar Lodge in the Woods

TARA'S MEADOW offers a quiet bed & breakfast option for 2, either in the guest bedroom in our beautiful “old fashioned cedar home in the woods”, or via our more private glamping options that can accommodate slightly larger groups in our 30 acre Nature Sanctuary. As an environmentally-oriented nonprofit with 30 protected acres of forest and meadow, we offer a special kind of vacation retreat not found with your usual rentals. You onsite hosts Seamus & Amie possess a deep knowledge of Beaver Island, with Seamus as an official tour guide and historian who can be contracted for tours of the Island’s fascinating human and natural history. Our perfect location also offers access also to the surrounding lakes and trails, marshes and nature preserves, with Beaver Island’s official Dark Sky preserve nearby. You can check out the variety of other “guest sojourn” services we offer at the tarasmeadow website

Glamping Options
In addition to our private guest bedroom for 2 in house with your hosts, Tara's Meadow also offers quiet, comfortable, and inexpensive "glamping" overnight facilities in the heart our 30 acre meadow and forest sanctuary. The "glamping" cabin out in the Meadow, and the geodesic dome lodging are the sites that can accommodate slightly larger groups and are pretty basic, with fresh well-water hauled out to the site. Unwind beneath the Milky Way in an official Monarch Butterfly Meadow preserve, and with the sightings of wildlife and sounds of the occasional Sand Hill Crane, Barred Owl, and Common Loon to grace your solitude and rest. Tara's Meadow is perfectly situated for nature lovers as a Dark Sky Nature site, with Beaver Island’s larger official Dark Sky Preserve just a short walk away. In addition to the birding, butterflies, and wildlife found on location, we offer close access to lakes and trails, marshes and other nature preserves nearby, including Miller's Marsh Natural Area and beautiful Greene's Lake with its 300-year-old oaks on the shore.

Amish Cabin
The Amish Cabin provides a cozy and homey "glamping" experience while still being in the middle of nature. Located at the edge of the meadow, the cabin has a luxury full size bed as well as a loft space that sleeps an additional 1-2 people.

Geodesic Dome
The Geodesic Dome offers guests a unique alternative to traditional overnight stays. Located within the nearby forest, the dome is very quiet, with an open interior layout that includes a fold out futon couch bed, and can accommodate multiple people in sleeping bags or cots.
Your host Seamus is available as an official Island Tour Guide and offers guests a variety of other “guest sojourn” services.

THE BEAVER ISLAND ARCHIPELAGO is composed of ten small islands that peek above the fresh waters of northeast Lake Michigan, far enough from the mainland to be environmentally distinct and relatively well preserved. An abundance of natural life thrives: 19 mammal species and hundreds of fish, bird, insect, and plant species all supported by a remarkable variety of beaches, forests, wetlands, and other habitats. The large inhabited Island contains 6 inland lakes and representations of every ecosystem in Michigan. And on the biggest island, Beaver, stands the great lake's largest settlement - a year-round community for seven generations, distinct for its relaxed pace, quality of life, and resilience. The inhabitants of Beaver Island are warm and welcoming, and include folks of historic Irish and Native American descent as well as many friendly folks of more recent residency on the Island.

Short stay on Beaver Island
Had an enjoyable couple days staying at host Seamus’s house in the woods. It was a very quiet peaceful location toward the southern end of the island, surrounded by nature. Seamus made us a yummy all organic breakfast one morning. He is a wealth of knowledge about the island and all things natural. We did break the silence of the island bombing around the 2-track roads in a UTV we rented for 4 hours. Was a great weekend.

Beautiful Beaver Island 2023
This was our first time to the island and as such, we decided to fly in. What an incredible way to see the natural beauty of Beaver Island! Once on the island we were met by a soft spoken, intelligent and oh so knowledgeable host, Seamus. Seamus quickly met our every request, we stocked up on supplies at the local grocery store and we were smoothly transported to our charming island accommodations. This cabin in the woods is a delightfully gorgeous summer cabin and sits comfortably amongst thick Northern Michigan vegetation and allows for a secluded private getaway. As this is a shared space, Seamus is available in any capacity guests request. Our requests to see great beaches, the mother birch and the entirety of the island by truck were appeased. Would definitely not have seen as much of this island without such a gracious guide. Should also mention that coffee, tea or hot cocoa, toiletries, linens and bug spray were provided as needed. Perfect stay for people who are new to the island as Seamus has thought of everything. Thank you Seamus! Absolutely loved our stay.

Beaver Island adventure
An awesome experience! Seamus really took the time to make us feel welcome, and his knowledge of the unique history of the island was the highlight of our trip. Seamus took us down backroads, and gave us a view of the island that we would have not have explored without his guidance. A great trip!

Never again!!!
My friends and I expected to go and have a nice time! We went into the house and upstairs where we was supposed to sleep, it was just 3 air mattresses on the floor outside his room! He planned on staying in the house with us. 3 single woman! There was a no electronic rule... no signal on our phones for over 3 miles, no internet. He had an alter in the room with horns on it. And when we said we didn't feel comfortable staying alone with a man we don't know I got less than half what I paid back. Then had to pay even more for a hotel!! It is ridiculous! In no way is that ok... and we are not the first women he has done this too! We were the 2nd group of people just this season! I will never go back to Beaver island because of everything! I would have never paid the money for that place if I would have know everything! Don't do it!!! Go somewhere else!!!!
