The Neighborhood:
Our neighborhood is full of homes built in the 1920s and 1930s. Each cottage-style home is filled with charming architectural details. Homes in our neighborhood are sought after due to the proximity to downtown, the Expo center, St John’s hospital, access to highways, well-kept lawns, and low crime rates. It is a very "walkable" neighborhood and many neighbors can be seen out walking, running, walking their dogs, or visiting one another. There is a neighborhood association that keeps the resident informed and provides semi-annual parties in our local parks. Nearby Attractions include Reasor’s grocery store - 2 minutes, Columbia liquors store - 1 minute, Downtown 7 minutes, Park - 5 minutes, St John’s Hospital - 3 minutes, Hillcrest Medical Center - 3 minutes, Expo Center - 6 minutes. Do not book this house unless changes are made
To state it plainly, this house is in no condition to be rented. I told the homeowner that it should not be on the market. The homeowner agreed with me that it should not be on the market. Vrbo agreed with me that it should not be on the market. I will attempt to list only facts and not my opinions or feelings of what transpired from 5/3-5/7/23. If you are renting this space after those dates, please verify that the homeowners did indeed fix the things that were brought to their attention and they promised they would fix. I attempted to list each of these with details but Vrbo does not allow enough space for that, so here are the bullet points... -The roof leaks during rain storms in the hallway just inside the front door. - The foundation has settled leading to cracks in the walls and ceilings as well as sloped floors. - There were ants in the master bathroom and an additional adjoining room. - 2 of the chairs around the chess table are broken. - The sofa/futon is broken in the middle. Also, this bed is not long enough for most adults. It is suitable only for a child. - The day-bed is simply a box spring with a sheet on it.- The owners left a list of check out instructions on the fridge threatening an additional charge of $25 if the towels were not in the laundry and also $25 if the trash was not taken outside to the large gray can. Upon contacting Vrbo, this is expressly against policy and the homeowners are not allowed to do this. There is more but no space.

Old, Not for kids
There was doghair in the sheets for the king bed and throughout the floor. The king bed is very old and had no susbance left. There is a general musty smell to the place that aggrevated my daughter's asthma. There are lose floorboards and steps. My daughter fell and hurt herself on them. The glass table is lose and not good for little ones. If you're looking for lots of beds for adults this place would work. I do not recommend kids. Property owner acted like there was nothing wrong with the place when contacted.

Outdated and Run Down
The home has several maintenance issues including water leaking inside during a rainstorm by the front entrance. There were slugs on the floor in the converted garage. The wall to the converted garage is no longer attached to the foundation and this room is completely unusable for someone to sleep. The pictures were very misleading. We found a lot of maintenance concerns and even cosmetic things like peeling paint and the house just needs a lot of tlc to be on the rental market in our opinion. We would not be booking this place a second time. The dog friendly aspect was ruined because there were large aggressive German shepherds behind the home that barked all day long and any time we tried to take our dogs out they would go crazy to the point we had to go back inside. The chai link fence is also not secure in the backyard so we had to keep our dogs on a leash every time they went outside.

Larger than expected-Doors don’t shut/lock
House accommodated our group well. Many sleeping options-felt larger than expected. Fairly clean but house was in disrepair. 2 back yard doors didn’t latch shut or lock (knobs or deadbolts). 3rd door we did not touch for fear we’d have all back doors non-functional. It’s was very uncomfortable sleeping with the back of house not locked or secured. Game room wall not attached to the house - would push completely away from the floor when attempting to lock the back door. It must be an ongoing problem as the bedrooms had interior locks, to lock yourself into your bedroom. But not even all of these were functional. Also Ironic that checkin instructions firmly noted what to do to Not Lock Yourself Out at the Front door. The strangest rental we’ve ever used. The reasonable rate & great interior online photos, led us to believe it met our expectations. Overall it was more comfortable than camping but not much more secure than a tent.
