Hutfabrik Panizza: In 1881, a hat factory was built instead of today's Yachting Residence by Giovanni Panizza, which soon became very popular and whose name was associated with sporty and elegant hats. Mainly the so-called "Bon Voyage" hats were produced, which were characterized by an extremely light felt. Here on Lake Maggiore, the founder of the company found the best conditions for the production of hats, because water was one of the most important factors for the production cycle, and on the other hand there were many specialized specialists in the area. In the year 1981 the production of Panizza was discontinued and the listed building was sold with the order to preserve the exterior and to convert a small part into a museum. For example, in 1994, the "Museo dell'arte del cappello" was opened, where the visitor has the unique opportunity to gain very interesting insights into the history of the production of the hut. Felt: Felt is the oldest existing cloth form. It was already known to the tribes of the Mongol steppe, long before Romans and Greeks discovered them for themselves. Felt is actually a "nonwoven" fabric, because it is made from wool or animal hair, and the fibers are interwoven with pressure and pressure by mechanical and chemical processes with the aid of heat and moisture. According to the legend, it was the apostle Giacomo who accidentally invented the felt. As he wandered the world to proclaim the Word of God, he sought a way to ease the great pain on his feet. For this purpose he gathered woolen bushes, which left the sheep behind the bushes and laid them between feet and sandals. After a while he noticed that due to the pressure, the moisture and the perspiration, the material hardened and assumed the shape of a sole. Thus, the natural process of felt production originated in an unintended way. Yachting Residence: Right on the sun-drenched shores of Lake Maggiore lies the "Yachting Residence", a complex which is probably unique because of its direct sea approach and its special architecture. From the Residence, you can easily reach Ghiffa via the new lakeside promenade. The building has undergone extensive renovations and has been completed in authentic style. The structure of the old facades has been preserved during the careful restoration of the listed buildings. The result: A stylish residence with modern comfort, but the charm of the original walls, which is ideal not only for water sportsmen and boat owners. Due to the sometimes unusual height of the rooms, the arched windows and the loggias facing the lake, apartments with their own character and charm were built. Also the outdoor area is unusual: to the exclusive residence belongs a 250 m long garden with lake access and large Liegewiese with barbecue place. In the evening the whole area is lit with beautiful beach lights. In the complex are also a coin-operated laundry machine and a coin dryer. The coins are given by the caretaker.
