Readfield/Maranacook Lake cottage with dock and plenty of privacy!

Sorry the shower wasn't operating up to snuff. Our handyman took a look at it and replaced the broken showerhead so now it's working properly again. Next time let me know if there's anything wrong during your stay and we can get right on it!

Thank you for the honest review. What we love about camp are the things you highlighted. With the change of generations this last year we’re working to catch up on deferred maintenance and hope our guests will appreciate the location and natural amenities while we make improvements.

Hi Daniel. We're so sorry to hear about the fall and glad your father is okay. The deck is due to have several planks replaced but in the meantime we've put a patch on the bad spot. So glad you had a great time otherwise!

I’ve tried to be clear in the description that the camp is older and rustic. Many of our guests understand what that means, appreciate that they aren’t going to be staying in a McMansion and enjoy their time on the lake. If a traditional Maine camp isn’t what someone is looking for but they book one anyway, there’s not much we can do about that. The Wi-Fi was working when last checked. When the cable company arrived at the time the guest had arranged with them to be there, they found the house unlocked and the key sitting on the lockbox because the guests had abandoned the camp two hours earlier. We had to call our local caretakers to scramble and meet the cable company. It turned out the outage was caused by a broken branch, which could have happened anytime. It would have been nice if the cable company had been able to get there sooner, but if the guest had simply kept the appointment they’d set up, they would have been online earlier than they were from driving back home a day early. I agree condensation from toilet tanks is an annoyance, but that has nothing to do with our camp in particular. It’s a common problem anywhere when the weather is warm and humid, as it was during the guest’s stay. Yes, if they thought it was too humid, they probably should have tried to used the air conditioner and humidifier. It’s not difficult. They are there for guests’ comfort but if they won’t turn them on then we can’t be responsible for them being uncomfortable.

The rug is worn and among the things we’d like to replace. We appreciate being informed the umbrella was broken. 

I don’t pretend the camp is something it isn’t. It’s a camp. From the outset this booking was extremely high maintenance, with ongoing pressure to move the conversation out of VRBO and into text (I relented when it came to dealing with the cable outage but they were clearly looking to get an off-platform deal) and random jumping around from booking one week to maybe wanting to add another week in September to maybe booking an entire month next year to actually putting pressure on me to sell them the property. They didn’t seem to understand we’re sharing our family camp on VRBO and not wheeling and dealing in the hospitality and real estate business.

Apologies that our cleaner missed clothes the previous guest accidentally dropped behind the air conditioner. We do ask guests to leave it "broom clean" and not leave dirty dishes, but the cleaner also visits between every stay. Like anywhere there are hidden corners out of traffic areas. For the record we made arrangements to return the left-behind clothes to the previous guest who lost them.
